City vs Villa - post match thread

Decent second half Navas motm closely followed by Clichy , good 2 see Garcia get some minutes , think he won't b far off a starting berth next season

Perhaps it's a sense of expectation from the fans - nothing wrong with that.

I think sense of entitlement could more appropriately be directed towards some of our players performances this season. We needed the 3 points today, had a comfortable second half with some good individual second half performances. There's some praise in there but what do you expect us to say?

We could be overly fawning like some naive sycophantic boss, who's staff only achieve when under no pressure yet still expect rewards for merely turning up for work. Maybe some fans have seen too many poor performances this season that a comfortable win over a side that offers no challenge is some kind of benchmark for the future?

I'm sure we all get the idea that we can only beat those teams put in front of us, but many of us also know that the matches we have lost this season were the ones where we needed to work hard, especially when being pressed. We haven't yet been able to show that we can handle this, which is probably why there aren't pages and pages of praise-heaping comments that a few posters seem to be expecting. Despite the Villa win, the first half was all too typical of our frustrating reluctance to move up a gear when required. It was yet another tale of two halves.

The teams that work hard (yet often only have a half the talent our squad possesses) have found us out this season. I have no idea whether our problems are laziness, fatigue, mentality or a mixture of all three. There are undoubtedly problems though, and I'd be extremely surprised if a solution is found this season. I'm also absolutely certain that if our lads had at least grafted their arses off against the dippers on Wednesday, most fans would have been more than happy, irrespective of the outcome.
Spot on mate - we have struggled this season because our team is less than the sum of the parts, surely the fault of the coaching staff.

Villa were absolutely dreadful but we struggled to get the first goal, I suspect most of the other premier league teams would have opened them up far quicker than we did.

Leicester are at the top because, despite not having the raw talent that we possess, they work their socks of to a plan against each opponent and fight for one another.

I consider this season to be a missed opportunity, and I am sure that as soon as we play a team who get stuck into us like the Pool last Wednesday we will fall apart yet again.

The key for me is Aguero not playing as a lone striker, but coming from behind,
The problem is we don't have another lone striker. ....

Navas my MotM, closely followed by Otamendi and Fernandinho.

Plenty of chances missed first half, but made up for it second half. Great to see Manu make his Premier League debut.

There's no getting away from the fact that Villa are very poor, but I have no sympathy for their fans after the shit they gave Barry and Delph.

Enjoy your time in the Football League, you Brummie twats!

Well done yet again Yaya!!
Think he said fuck you at the start of the celebration:-)

Agree about Garcia. Thought he was good against Chelsea. Hard to tell whether his best position is from deeper ala Toure or whether he's Silva's heir apparent. Either way it's early days but I think he's got a big future at City. Unless i'm mistaken Pep's brother is his agent which means they must think so too.

That midfield/forward set up in the first half was an abomination in terms of it's quality and work.

Somehow, he didn't catch my eye as much vs Chelsea. Obviously he bags of time and space v Villa but it was the way he played his passes and the weight and accuracy: in the same situation, a lot of his more experienced colleagues don't pass like that. Too early to know if he will even make it but I got the same vibe as when I first saw Nacho and when KDB came on at Palace. Be nice if Pep could turn him into a Xaviesque star.

First half set up was poor. I feel for Bony but I was nearly out of my chair ranting at him shortly after saying to someone that it's no help if the crowd gets on his back! Bony has been a huge disappointment: like your mate Scott, I expected rather more of him and called it wrong; although I do think he is capable of more, given the game time, but I feel that Nacho is the superior, albeit different style of, forward. That said, I'd have probably started Sterling. For the most part, we seem to be at our best with Navas, Yaya, Dinho and Sterling across the middle.

Clichy was my MotM.

We didn't play particularly well today, but then again we didn't need to. Villa were absolutely dire. Still, not going to grumble about a 4-0 win! The league table looks a bit better tonight. Could do with United dropping points tomorrow, but suspect they'll win. It'll be good for the squad to have a week without a game, hopefully recover a bit after a hectic 10 days.

Exactly as I saw it too.
