My thoughts (not predictions):

Gareth B. has had the most demanding season so far (with onerous roles in games for us + in the internationals) and, being a key (underrated) player, he should be rested on Saturday. Looks as though Nigel should be available (http://www.physioroom.com/news/english_premier_league/epl_injury_table.php).

As a Mario fan, I reckon that watching Edin and Kun knocking in the goals in our first three games should have been a salutory experience for him (and perhaps being rebuked by Prandelli for his attitude last Friday may also have been beneficial). But I think that it is important now to give Mario an opportunity, if at all possible. He would benefit from significant playing time on Saturday before the Napoli game; though not an automatic starter in the latter, he will be desperate to play and Napoli will be very nervous about facing him. Mario got a good right-up for his performance as a late sub vs Slovenia last night. After the game, Prandelli said: “Now let’s give Balotelli time to grow, the important thing is he came on with the right attitude.” (http://www.football-italia.net/sep6v.html).

Edin Dzeko is a difficult one. A case could be made for resting him on Saturday. But, assuming he is fully fit, I would play him: (1) it would be great for him to get yet more goals vs Wigan and further boost his confidence; (2) the system with him genuinely 'leading' the attack is still work in progress; (3) most importantly, I would like to see Edin have more playing time with Samir before our crucial CL debut ; and (4) I have a non-trivial bet at 30 to 1 on him to win the Golden Boot. :-)

With Edin, Mario and Samir in the starting line-up, I would also go with Kun. He has had quite a lot of travelling but not much game time in the Argentina games. Again the more he gets to play with Edin, Samir and Mario the better.

I would rest David (have him as sub but to be used only if really necessary). I think that he is such an intelligent footballer that it is less crucial to give him playing time with Samir and Kun.

Dont give a shit who plays as long as we win.

Agreed. I think we need to keep up the momentum and keep pressing the scum.

I think Kun will drop to the bench for Tevez and Balo will get some action late on.

If anything I think Dzeko could go to the bench due to how much he has played this week

The view from the opposition is on the blog now:

Manchester City are back home at the Etihad Stadium after two impressive away wins at Bolton and Tottenham, to greet Wigan Athletic. City have won their opening three games and have scored 12 goals in the process, while Wigan have also had an unbeaten start.

Looking at this game on paper, you would expect a thumping from Manchester City. We boast attacking talent such as Edin Dzeko, Samir Nasri, David Silva and Sergio Aguero. And if things don't go too well, we can always bring on Carlos Tevez, Mario Balotelli and Adam Johnson. But Wigan always make things difficult for Manchester City at the newly named Etihad Stadium. In fact, in this fixture last season, we only beat Wigan because of a terrible howler from Wigan 'keeper al Habsi, who failed to hold on to a shot from David Silva.

Wigan's main threats come from Franco Di Santo and Victor Moses, who have started the season in electric form. Di Santo has 2 goals in three games, while Victor Moses has kept defences busy with his darting runs and tricky skills.

City's main threats almost aren't worth going through, because I'd honestly be listing most of the squad. Edin Dzeko has 6 goals in three games, David Silva has two goals in three games, Gareth Barry has a goal to his name, and Samir Nasri & Sergio Aguero have three assists and three goals respectively. City are packed full of stars, who will hopefully turn on the magic in City's first Saturday 3pm kick off in what seems like a decade.

You never know which Wigan team you're going to get. Are you going to get the Wigan team that lay down and died when playing Manchester United, or are you going to get the spirited Wigan team that managed to secure a win away to Stoke on the last day of the season to stay in the Premier League?

I do think City will come away victorious, but I'm not sure how comfortably the win will be. Wigan seemed difficult to break down at the Etihad Stadium last season, but City have a little more cutting edge about them now. Edin Dzeko is in the form where, if he plays, you expect him to score. Samir Nasri and David Silva are buzzing around delightfully, and Sergio Aguero is in good form. But with the Napoli game in mind, will Mancini go with a slightly weaker team? Adam Johnson in for Samir Nasri? Mario Balotelli in for Edin Dzeko?

City's one weakness is their inability to defend set pieces at the moment. The three goals they've concede this season have come from balls into the box, and this even worried Mancini after they'd thrashed Tottenham 5-1 at White Hart Lane.

Final prediction - Manchester City 2-0 Wigan Athletic.

My thoughts on the team.
Hart; Zabaleta, Kompany, Savic, Kolarov; de Jong, Barry; Nasri, Silva, Aguero, Dzeko.

Last five meetings.
City 1-0 Wigan
Wigan 0-2 City
City 3-0 Wigan
Wigan 1-1 City
City 1-0 Wigan

I hope Balotelli and Adam Johnson play, other players need to be rested, after internationals and with the game against Napoli coming up. also i hope Savic, Kolo Toure and Milner get a game.

but as long as we win it doesn't really matter who plays.

Good analysis above, don't believe there will be wholesale changes to the team but I expect some tinkering. Personally like to see the team that demolished Spurs get a good advantage then change it.

I expect Tevez to start who seems to link better with Balotelli than Dzeko, Nasri I am sure will start (subject to injury) to give him his home debut, whether he includes Silva as well not so sure.

If NDJ back expect him to take over from Barry who may be rested following exertions on international duty, if Micah still recovering from hamstring can see Zab at right back. IMO too early to break up CB pairings so I expect Kompany and Lescott to continue, as for Kolorov and Cliche I expect Kolorov to start with Cliche playing against Napoli because of Lavezzi's pace.

IMO

Hart, Zab, Kompany, Lescott, Kolorov, NDJ, Yaya, Nasri, Silva, Balotelli and Tevez.

Nasri has broke a bone or somethin in his hand, so id go for:

_______________Hart_______________
Zabaleta__Kompany__Lescott__Kolarov
__________________________________
______Yaya Touré____de Jong________
___Silva_______Tévez____Balotelli____
______________Džeko_______________

Bench:

Pantilimon,

Savić,
Clichy,

Barry,
Nasri/Milner,
A Johnson,

Agüero.

If de Jong is ready?
