City Women’s Team | 2025/26

A lot about this makes sense. Id loathe to lose Park, espesh to United, but at the same time she regressed last year and we arent getting the best out of her. We also have lots of players who can play RW and/or 10.

Clinton in for Park would objectively give us a more balanced squad and Clinton is much happier playing the deeper postion weve been trying shoehorn Park into.

Prising Clinton from United this summer was always going to be at a high cost. This is the only way the deal gets done in my opinion. Saves United some face, saves us a lot of money and replaces a player being underused on the bench with one who can affect things on the pitch.

Reluctantly, I hope it happens.

Update: today's presser now pushed back to 2pm
I'd agree as it's all about team needs and Jess is a more attacking player that last year didn't really suit being in the middle for us. Yui was at times a one woman midfield especially as Roord failed to get back to her best. Clinton adds more steel and as you point out having Viv, Aoba, Lauren, Iman and when fit Mary all capable of the position behind Bunny it maybe best to let Jess leave. Viv in particular is simply too good to not play most games.

You omitted Kerolin as well.

I felt at the end of last season that Jess was going to struggle for game time this year - assuming we finally sorted out the midfield (Lohmann) - and Jess leaving makes the signing of Beney make more sense.

A Clinton/Park swap would make sense from our POV.

Crikes I forgot about Kerolin, cheers - makes the sale even more of a good idea.

It feels like a pragmatic move if it happens. And the most important thing is it pisses off Arsenal fans as i think a lot of them have designs on both players.

For anyone who has a season ticket emails have been sent out now with a download link and all the info you’ll need for the upcoming season.

@IrishBloodEnglishHeart your season ticket should have updated to the Brighton game

Thank you - just checked and it it :) Saw the email about the new turnstiles as well - all looks a bit fancy!

The Cutback are reporting that the Park/Clinton swap deal is happening g and Park has completed a medical.
I know there will be some who won't like this deal but for me it's a vey good one for us. Sydney and Yui needed serious competition in the middle. Last season when we used our fringe players we lost our way & we were often bullied out of possession in midfield. Lohmann and Clinton add a lot of steel and Yui is just Yui.

Jess was not getting in front of Viv and others further up, wish her all the best.

Hope it's true - a good deal by Therese.

Also I thought Andree was good in the presser today. He speaks more sense in 10mins than his predecessor did in years - Taylor was the master of waffle & some players could see right through it.

Yeah i think its a bittersweet one. I think Park has the higher ceiling than Clinton but we have other equally as talented and slightly more consistent options in her department. I think her development was hindered by how we used her last season too. Shes gonna be great at United and I hope it doesnt come back to haunt us too much.

At the same time, we've addressed a real deficiency in our squad with a really good player. Clinton is class and also a bit more of the workhorse we need in midfield.

Both players were in the final year of their contract so both clubs have mitigated the risk of them leaving for free and got themselves a top player in the process. Its been a good summer in the transfer market or us on the whole (except for the lack of LB)

Is Park good? Only been watching for 6 months and she's not impressed me at any point. Genuinely never seen anything exciting from her, maybe she just had a poor second half of the season?

23/24 season she found herself in the first team after Roord got injured and she was our best player for the rest of that season and a huge part of our title charge. Probably only Lauren James was better than her during that period in the whole league.

Last season I think she became a bit of a victim of her own versatility and we tried to shoehorn her into the 8 position (cos we had Roord and Miedema for the 10 and we didn't have an 8). She tried her best but she was playing out of position in a disorganised team with a shit manager and an ever growing injury list. She thrives when she plays nearer to goal and she didn't get much of a chance to play her own game.

That said, she didn't impress that much when she did get a chance to play 10 towards end of season. But I wouldn't judge her too harshly as the team was in total disarray and decimated with injuries at that point. It's safe to say though that regardless of where the blame lies, she did not kick on last season in the way you'd hope.

She had an absolutely brilliant season the season before last but then last year we’d moved her into central midfield and it wasn’t to her strengths

Clinton is also 18 months younger than Park. Feels like she's been young forever but Park is 24 in a few weeks. Obvs that's still some way off her peak years but she needs to be moving beyond the "potential" label at this point in her career.

Will she be straight in the starting XI for Friday night?
As season openers go, it doesn’t get much tougher than having your hardest game of the season first up, but then who knows, it may be a good time to catch them cold, before they are up to speed etc, and at least we shouldn’t have anyone out injured yet! (should we?)

The more I think about it the more I actually think this is a great deal for us. Think we gain from this more than United
From what I understand, united fans are over the moon with how Zigiotti and Miyazawa have played in midfield during preseason. So whilst none of them feel like they want to lose Clinton they feel they can cope.

They were crying out for a bit more firepower tho and Park brings that for them. Between Park, Bizet and Toone they have 3 good players to cover 2 positions. Theyve sacrificed strength in depth in a different area of the field to make it happen though and despite having a very decent starting 11 they have a very thin squad to say they are playing in Europe too.

I think its a mutually beneficial move for both sides and Arsenal also have to reckon with the fact that City and United are both a bit stronger from this transaction. It also looks like Arsenal's move for the midfielder they want (Reuteler) might not happen now as Frankfurt dont have enough time to get a replacement. Will be great for us if they miss out.

Furthermore, I think Arsenal saw United as a potential place to ship Mead off to and I think Park going there stops that.
