Having watched the first two games of the season, it's clear to see the difference in quality between the likes of Houghton, Scott and Duggan compared to the rest of the team. Not a dig at the others, but to me, it looks such an imbalance in quality. It would be like dropping Kompany, Yaya and Aguero into our side during Pearce's reign.

I'm sure we will get better and look more fluid as the season goes on, I thought in the second half against Liverpool, we actually looked quite decent, today though was very poor, struggled to put more than 3 or 4 passes together. I will tell you one thing though, these girls get stuck in a lot harder than the men do and don't spend half the game diving about all over the pitch.

Some truth in all that but still a little unfair and even cruel. In both games so far we have started slowly and all the players were found wanting at times.I 100% include Steph Houghton and Jill as both were surprisingly poor at the start of each game.It was as if the team were surprised at how strong the opposition started but I am confident they were not but just struggled to handle it.

The nature of the game is that the opposition press quickly and there is no time or room to play.So if the first touch isn't great,as it hasn't been, then were are under real pressure all the time. Add to that I feel the opposition players seem to be a bit sharper or at least quicker than we are and we really have been on the back foot. The speed issue could be a big problem.WE don't have many quick players in the team and a few are actually quite slow compared to opposition players. One to one races have been a problem a few times so the team need to recognise this and not isolate our slower players in defensive positions. (nothing much you can do if someone is slow then they are slow.)

It's been interesting in both games that we have struggled so much in the first 20 minutes but then looked sort of ok albeit lacking and real goal threat ( specifically in the Bristol game).Such a shame that their first goal came from a simple goalkeeping error. Not quite sure what happened on the 2nd as Chelsea was beaten far too easily on the byline for the cross to be played in and then the rest seemed to be asleep. The striker miskicked the first time but still have time to knock it in as nobody challenged.

When we do get the ball we need to show a little more composure rather than hurry the pass.We seem to see some passes but often they need a world pass which they aren't really likely to make so a little more time needs to be taken rather than go for broke all the time and give the ball away. And shooting from 40 yards doesn't seem like the right thing to do either as we tried a couple of times.

I am sure there is much better to come but it does need to start quickly before we get adrift at the bottom. It's quite a short season in terms of number of games so some points on the board are essential.

Remember that we are the only team in the league which has replaced half of its squad, and all of our top performers are new. That means that the ones who have never played with each other before are the ones we are relying on to carry the team. If the men's team needs time to gel when they sign new players then the same must surely apply to the women?

Totally true but as I said if it doesn't happen quickly we could be adrift. I think getting Karen back in goal will be a plus as she is a real presence in net and will help the confidence of the defence. That will sound cruel to Andrea Worrall in nets as she has done really well in the 3 competitive games so far ( barring the first Bristol goal) but Karen I think is the real deal.

Re: City Ladies

I think realistically, the aim for this season is to not finish last and to start playing attractive football by the end of the season. Typically in the WSL there's one team with an abysmal record - some teams don't win a single game etc - so I think finishing above the relegation zone won't be a monumental challenge. Then from the following season we can build on our base and start challenging for honours.

Agreed. Lay the foundations this season and aim higher next season when they should be in the new minihad.

Toni Duggan was on twitter last night apologising for the performance. Fair play to the girl, she was obviously frustrated and dissapointed, but she thanked everyone for turning up and promised things would improve. I do like the attitude of the girls.

Re: City Ladies

Went to the game and the only player to stand out was Jill Scott. As someone said after the game they looked like a team thrown together very quickly which is exactly the case. Remember Bristol finished runners up last year so can't be that bad. I think the first goal knocked the stuffing out of the team (poor keeping error) and the second followed very quickly, after which it became a scrappy game with the wind affecting the game. Promising start though and well worth going down to watch.
