I'm right in saying we have had a "Manchester City ladies" team for years and years yes? One that played in the club shirts and was fully linked to the club. They may not have made it into the top flight but they were city's ladies team. Often wonder how they feel about being dumped and wiped from history with all the hype about "MCFC Womens" being newly formed and all the top players brought in, with no mention of the old team having even existed.
I don't think they feel too bad about it considering that the management/coaching team hasn't changed, most of the players haven't changed, and so on. Let's not kid ourselves that the MCWFC fans are anything other than MCFC fans with a bit of spare time and possibly a female member of the family who wants to attend. I honestly don't believe that this is a major thing. After all, it's not like they've done what Doncaster (formerly Lincoln City Ladies) did, which is have their links to the men's club severed and had to seek a new partner.
Ah ok fair enough. I do however think it's weird then that every press release or tv report on this first match refered to us as "newly formed", even city seem to be pushing it as newly formed. Granada Reports tonight mentioned it and called us that - makes us sound like even the womens team has no history and is a money filled bandwagon jumper!
Yes unfortunately they continue with the big spending jibes to the womens team.

The reigning WSL champions, Liverpool Ladies, launched their title defence with a 1-0 win over ambitious newcomers Manchester City Women.
Liverpool's England striker Natasha Dowie, who finished as top scorer in the league last season, made the breakthrough on the 70-minute mark, running on to a long pass from Lucy Bronze and firing out of the reach of City's goalkeeper Andie Worrall.
The game, played on a challenging surface at Liverpool's Widnes home, saw City make their debut in the English top flight following a bold close-season signing spree. The visitors included the England captain Steph Houghton at the heart of their defence, with international colleagues Jill Scott and Toni Duggan in central midfield and striking roles respectively, after their recent moves.
Houghton, Scott and Duggan have each been signed on full-time professional deals, the first English players on such terms, but City could not avoid defeat in their opener.
Duggan went close to a late equaliser but after a mazy run from the England striker, signed from Everton, her shot was well saved by Liverpool's American goalkeeper Libby Stout.
