The one that always gets left out is sat on the front row, Dave Conner was the utillity man and a brilliant man marker, could play across the back an midfield..........he would walk into todays team, Allison was always first to tell anyone that he was one of the most important players in the team
Of the others, Book, doyle, Oakes, Bell, Lee, and Young* could again just walk into todays team, both goalies while not bad were not that special in the days of Banks, Jennings, an a few more, Pardoe maybe and Buzzer not a certainty either.
Young was the other forgoten man, unless you watched the team in those days, "Nelly" scored 2/3 of the goal in what is called the Bell ,Lee , Summerbee era, a real class player with a deadly left foot.
Big Dave deserves explanation as to why he would not fit into todays team.........when he tackled someone, they stayed tackled, the refs today would have him off the park in two mins, an I dont mean he was a dirty player, just that he treated ever tackle full on, in the air he was as dominant as any today.
