City's 1968 Championship winning side

alan oakes was one of our all time greats, he is the one who without doubt would be able to keep up with todays players as a possible holding midfielder, this guy was so underated and could go box to box something we havn,t got in the side at the moment? it was the greatest time of my life watching that team, but without joe and mal there was no side?

Happy days, remembering that team. It was swashbuckling football, but you had characters in the game in those days that would bring the game into 'disrepute' today.

I don't think Buzzer would get many games today, but what a great entertainer he was. My favourite player, anyway.

The thought that crossed my mind though, having thought about it for a while, is how similar Francis Lee and Carlos Tevez are in their play.

They are both short and a little bit stocky, but the way Tevez looks for the openings as he trawls around the box, the way he rides the challenges, his general play, the way he hustles, it reminds me of Lee.

Maybe I'm on my own with this, but I remember Lee with the ball around his feet and somehow breaking loose, and Tevez looks similar.

I watch Tevez, and it reminds me of Lee.

I agee spot on Told my son after a few games of watching Tevez that he is the closest player I have seen to Francis. Don't agree about buzzer though still think he would played most games

Also agree with "mancunial" Oakes was very underated remember him coming out of our box with the ball at his feet and him spreading 60 yards balls across field Never played for England but at the time the great Bobby Moore was number 6 They were a truely great team that never really realised thir full potential due to Allison's ambition to be boss, he and Joe should have stayed together it was a great partnership wrecked by ambition and ego and Malc wasn't entirely to blame

A quality side I was priveleged to watch, sat on the wall in what was the north stand. Harry dowd underrated but the whole squad played with style and when needed agression. My favourite has to be mike doyle as he was blue and let them know it on and off the pitch, happy days

1st ever treble by an English team.
my old man tells me we were the last team to win the league with an all english 11.. cant see that ever happening again!

It's not quite accurate as the Scottish midfielder Bobby Kennedy made a few appearances in the title winning season but the 1st choice XI was all English, mostly northerners too!

Oakes was one of my favourite players as a kid, he hit the ball as hard as any City player I've seen, he definitely never scored tap-ins!
