City's best ever goal mouth scramble.... 29 years ago today!

We played them a few times in the 80s, twice at least. I've a feeling this one was the second or even third time. The first was the wildest. The Daily Mirror had a series of photos from that day (I'd guess around 83) showing City fans running wild, including climbing walls and invading the pitch. I put them on here once, years ago, but I think they've vanished now. Will have a look.

Running wild, those were the days! I remember what we got up to at Oldham one year, talk about taking liberties! I paid into the Chadderton Road end as I'd spotted other City fans and couldn't believe how many were in there. Ended up on the pitch and two other stands that day!

Those were the days......mayhem on the way, before, during, after & on the way back !!

Lancs police said all the cells in Blackpool were full by noon & they were taking fans to Fleetwood & Preston.

Tits,Fanny & CITY........oh and beer !!

We also played Blackpool away in the cup around 83 and lost 2-1. That was the match where there was loads of trouble, pitch invasion, the stand on the side getting ripped to pieces and chucked on the pitch etc

Are you sure you're not thinking of that one, as I don't remember any serious mayhem on the day this thread refers to?

There were so many rum fcukers in those days.....but a 21 year old then is 50 now !!

I'm 65 in April ffs but can remember some of the events back in the early 60s as if they were yesterday.

A Maynes double decker with open back to FAC in Cardiff. Lads swinging round the central, pole on the back step as we're flying down the motorway.

Descended on Ross on Wye like locusts and robbed the place empty.

Probably couldn't do it now cos so much has changed and we've all got old.

Mad,bad & great fun

It was one of the maddest celebrations I've ever been involved in. I was tucked round the side of the corner flag next to a crappy old stand with a side panel of battered perspex and chicken mesh, looking right across the goal-line at the bank of Blues behind the goal. Other than Dickov at Wembley I don't think I've ever witnessed such carnage. Happy happy days!

A memorable day out; most vivid memory is actually buying fish and chips before the game. I've seen the video clip of us all going bonkers a number of times and it has pushed the memory of being in the melee deep into the subconscious.

No serious trouble just lots of pissed up blues arsing around and generally being a bloody nuisance.
Smashed a few bars about.
Blackpool fans were not really fighters so wasn't much boxing with them but quite a bit with dibble.
We went on Friday & got back on Tuesday. Stayed in the nurses home but that's another storey..... fuck me !!!

Played them in 84, I knew it. This was the one with the most trouble: http://www.citytilidie.com/latest/blackpool-away-fa-cup-3rd-round-1983-to-84/

Didn't go to that one. The 1-0 defeat I was on about turns out to have been 1997. I'd never have called 8 years between the two games in a month of Sundays. In my head they were only a couple of years apart! Must be getting old. I do remember after the 1-0 defeat walking straight into the only Blackpool fan I've ever known in my life outside, who was predictably tiresome about it! They were the only two times I've ever been to Bloomfield Road and I think the battered shed of a stand down the side had gone by the time of the latter fixture

I think that was the first time we had played them for a long time and at a time when the FA Cup meant something. Utter carnage that day as thousands of City invaded the place. The OP video was from a few years later when everyone thought surely we won't lose again to them. The trouble wasn't as bad this time as the police was a little more switched on than five years previous...

We had 2 really big followings at County, the 3-2 loss when it kicked off before promotion and the 1-0 FA cup defeat when we should have won 8-1.

I think it was the FA Cup defeat was when the said pylon was dismantled, along with various other parts of the away end.

The keepers name was Steve Cherry? Had all his worldies in one game..

Yeah Steve fucking Cherry the program had an article about him averaging 4/5 goals conceded against us over his career then as you say he made all his saves in one game.

Away at Blackpool, FA Cup 4th round, losing 1-0 with seconds left....
I was right behind the goal at the bottom and was jumped on by a large mob for ages!
Fuckin' freezing that day too, the wind ripped your face off!

Absolute scenes when that went in!
