in the 70s, franny lee, picked the ball up just inside the sheff united half, rapid foot movement took him past 3 deffenders, then he let fly ,THE BALL ROCKETED INTO THE NET FROM AT LEAST 30 YARDS, sending the crowd a couldren of boiling lather, ( the north stand was ALL standing at the time.)oh and what made every body laugh at the time was seeing sheff united player TREVOR hockey , chasing the ref, and the ref RUNNING FOR HIS LIFE.... think it was the year RODNEY MARSH signed for us...GREAT TIMES

The greatest City goal was scored by Jim Melrose ..... mid eighties ..... at home to Notts County , 2-0 win ....... an unbelievable volley into the North Stand goals from around the halfway line.

That was the 1st goal I thought of when I saw the title of this thread.

Friend at work is a Snackpot fan! and told her when shes sees Jim Melrose at Edgeley Park, ask him what his greatest goal ever was/is and I told her he has to say that one!!! ;-)

And Elano versus newcastle for me as I'd travelled over and was in the stands.My missus had travelled over and is not a football fan but was still the first one up cheering before it was in the net.GET IN! ;-)

Oh and Goater versus Neville was nice but lads...
