Citys new neighbours..... Oldham and FC United

Tonight i attended a meeting on a new Stadium for O.A.F.C. that was chaired by Oldham Athletic and Oldham Council. I was there as a resident of Failsworth (and a blue) and i am now pretty sure that this project will happen. There was hardly any opposition to the plans and to be honest the club won everyone over as they are also promising to upgrade local grassroots football facilities.

This will mean Oldham with be 2.4 miles from Citys ground. This also means they will have a Manchester postcode and a Manchester address. (Can you imagine City having an OL postcode!!)

It was also brought to everyones attention that FC United are planning to build a stadium on Ten Acre lane in Newton Heath. This is exactly 1.1 miles from Citys stadium. They will officially be our nearest neighbours with Oldham and Man Yoo a few metres behind respectivly.

These stadiums are intended to be built and developed in the next 5 years.
Point being........ When United go bust do not worry about a local Derby Day, because their will be another 2 teams in the Manchester Area to replace them.

Where abouts on Ten Acre Lane? I play football on the pitches there every Monday, hope they're not getting rid of them

I think most people see Failsworth as being in Manchester despite it being under Oldham Council. If they move to the Lancaster site on broadway they'll be closer to town than they will be to Oldham town centre

It will be interesting to see what happens if Oldham move to Failsworth. Although it's a part of Oldham MBC, it is right on the doorstep of North Manchester. I bet the marketing and community development people at OAFC will have their eyes on places such as Moston, Newton Heath and other parts of North Manchester as areas where they could in theory bring in future supporters, especially youngsters who may feel priced out of Premiership football.

From their point of view, I think it's a good move.

As for FC United of Bury, they will fizzle out in a few years time.

I think your right, it's probably behind the thinking, support from Chadderton can still get easily to the ground and they've got access to a lot more potential "local" supporters in Moston, New Moston, Failsworth etc.. all of which have a lot of non match going blue and red.

If Oldham and City are at home on the same day and kick off time's the same, the fuckin traffic will be shit for me going to COM's. I normaly leave my house half hour before kick off park up and still have time grab a program on the way in.
