People used to say we couldn't attract the top names because our club had no standing. But look at Monaco right now... promoted from the French 2nd division and signing Falcao, Moutinho, Rodriguez, with more to follow. I reckon with the correct manager (a bigger name than Hughes) and a director of football we could have taken football by storm earlier and bypassed the whole 'mid-grade players on huge wages' stage.
Almost all 3rd party owned which is banned in England

And this is why FFP is a load of shit. Different countries have different rules, different tax, different TV deals etc. It ain't a level playing field, in Monaco they don't pay tax at all.

The lowest point is the 2004/05 season. Losing Anelka missing out on Daniel Van Buyten and sighing Ben thatcher and danny mills.

I believe French players playing for Monaco have to pay full French taxes, but foreign players don't.

Have any of you been to Monaco?

I am partly from Manchester and I honestly would have to think about it long and hard if given the choice between Monaco and the north of England.

There are other benefits to transferring there.

How can you be partly from Manchester?

One parent from Manchester, one from Zaragoza. I spent a large part of my life between the two cities and identify myself as from both places.

looking at those figures it does appear that the club has done its utmost to spunk as much money up the wall as it possibly could.

on the plus side we have won the league and the FA cup, so its not all bad, and also, lets not forget that 400m to our owner is something that he will make back in interest on the money he already has in about 6 months, so i dont think you should worry too much.

ffp is the fly in the ointment for us, not wasted funds.

It's different situation..

Monaco is almost guaranteed to qualify for Champions League with such signings and might even win the league if everything goes right as PSG looks bit unstable with losing Ancelotti and maybe even Ibrahimovic. And they have very "interesting" tax laws back there in Monaco ;)

City was in the league with established European elite and it was harder to attract players on the beginning.

There were some shit signings though.

If we'd had a Mourinho or Ancelotti on day one of the takeover, with someone like Begiristain to do the deals, I don't think any of that would have mattered. We'd have been able to bring in the big names right from the start because players want to play for those managers... they don't want to play for Mark Hughes. I think our club lacked a collective football brain in the early takeover days, now we have one.

Hopefully we'll see that this summer at United with Gollum.
