Do you know the story behind this? - someone once told me the dodgy nature of the deal - strange how Alan Ball didn't include it in his autobiography! In short everyone knew Phillips was rubbish and he was talked up so the deal would go through to settle a debt!
 
Bill Williams...bought from Stockport, never played, and given back to them a year later!!!

Or Eike Immel!!! (is that how you spell it?)
