Even if we lose in Madrid, two wins in the January games will put us on 16 points which was enough for top eight last season.
But life would would have been so much simpler had Pep not taken leave of his senses with the team he picked to play Leverkusen.

He won't be arsed it was his brain fart v Leverkusen that made top eight more difficult, but he'll want to progress as the club prioritises this tournament.
Two wins from three should be enough, two wins and a draw would be great. However winning in Madrid sends a message about how seriously we should be taken.

I like it, Europe is a chance to see teams come to the Etihad that don't usually and this increases the chances of this happening. I'm sick to death of playing Real for example, think tonight is the 15th time.
 
I think, from a quick tot-up, that if we beat Bodo or Gala, i.e. 3 points more, then the lowest we could finish is around 9th. Favourable results would see us squeeze through in the top 8 with 3 more points. I haven't done the maths but 4 points from those games should be enough, regardless of results.

The problem for us is that Atalanta, R Madrid, A Madrid (same 2 fixtures as us), Barca and Liverpool all have 2 winnable games against oppo outside the top 16. In our favour, Newcastle, Dortmund, Inter and Sporting have some fixtures with others in the top 16.

I think 3 points could do it, but 4 seals it.
(i've removed Arsenal and Bayern where they don't play another 3rd to 15th. Bayern have 2 easy games)

I don’t think that’s a terrible idea, to be honest. All it means is we could still get the exact same 8 teams next season, but the venues would be reversed.
