CL performance in context

PSG in their first appearance in god knows how long managed to get to the QFs and draw with Barca over 2 legs. New team, still gelling etc. Granted they had an easier group but this difference quite simply is Ancelotti. He's 'got it' when it comes to Europe.

Mancini should he stay needs a bit of luck in regards to an easier group but if we can't beat Ajax then we are going to struggle no matter what the group is.

Context or not, we earned less coefficient points than some really average teams this season! Not good, we want to be heading towards Pot 1 from Pot 2, instead we're en route back to Pot 3. I'm not sure it's possible to get a group as hard as this year's but the way it has gone for us you can't rule it out.

2012/2013 coefficient points earned: <a class="postlink" href="http://kassiesa.home.xs4all.nl/bert/uefa/data/method4/tcoef2013.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://kassiesa.home.xs4all.nl/bert/uef ... f2013.html</a>
Dortmund were in pot 4 this season and it didn't seem to do them any harm!!!

As were Napoli the season previously..

What pot your in is irrelevant,
Chelsea were pot one this year yet were in a group with Shakhtar and Juventus.

What we need to do is play one formation with our best players every game.

Whilst it is good having the ability to play more than one formation we shouldnt be testing it during the match.

A bit of luck as well and we can progress next year.

FWIW pot 2 teams would be Benfica, Shaktar Donetsk, AC Milan, Schalke, Marseilles, CSKA Moscow, Juventus and PSG if all seasons ended today and everyone got through qualifiers.

Pot 3 teams would include us, Spurs, Ajax and Dortmund. So good chance of a tough but winnable two fixtures either way.

Don't blame a Referee. You'll sound like Neil Warnock. Even a win against Ajax wouldn't have been enough.
That last minute goal from Madrid ripped the lads hearts out and they never recovered
Those Ajax games were horrible to watch
Dortmund are good but no team should dominate us like they did at our place

For first 25 mins yes... then Kun (twice) and Silva missed sitters before Dortmund scored.. or have you all forgotten... small margins.
In all honesty mate I was in the outback of Australia so the only bit of Dortmund home game I have seen is the penalty. Was just told they dominated us for fun

Dortmund were the best team to come to City in several seasons. They nearly scored for a second time with a move like the one that created their first goal and Hart had to make some incredible saves to deny them again. We were so flattered by a 1-1 scoreline.
