CL performance in context

Context or not, we earned less coefficient points than some really average teams this season! Not good, we want to be heading towards Pot 1 from Pot 2, instead we're en route back to Pot 3. I'm not sure it's possible to get a group as hard as this year's but the way it has gone for us you can't rule it out.

2012/2013 coefficient points earned: <a class="postlink" href="http://kassiesa.home.xs4all.nl/bert/uefa/data/method4/tcoef2013.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://kassiesa.home.xs4all.nl/bert/uef ... f2013.html</a>

I agree with a lot of the posts on here including the original post. Fact is, two years in a row City have got tough draws and two years in a row have underperformed. If we don't get out of the group stage (I'm not talking Europa League) I think Mancini will be getting the DiMatteo treatment. Only difference being Mancini would deserve it, but I dont see that happening 3 years in a row.

I don't think CL is the time or place to be experimenting with an unfamiliar formation (3 in the back) or playing unfamiliar players. I wont start on a Maicon rant, but that still baffles me. Could be wrong but I think Nastastic's first start for City was in a champions league match against Real Madrid. Didn't turn out badly, but that speaks volumes about the maturity of Nastasic, still doesn't make sense.

But my biggest worry is City seem to play that lackadaisical, unmotivated, predictable, narrow, boring style way too often in European matches. I dont know if that is due to a lack of confidence, overconfidence, fatigue, apathy or what. Thats what really worries me, I don't know why City have those Ajax/Southhampton/Everton etc type matches. They just happen. Well anyway, hopefully we get a good draw in 2013.

Context is this for me..

3 teams out of the last 2 seasons champions league group stages are now in the semis.Bayern,Dortmund,Madrid. Yet people are so quick to hammer Mancini for his perceived lack of nouse in europe. No excuses for Ajax but the other games for me we very very difficult tests of which we came up short

Said it before and I will say it again,we cannot be judged on our european performances and neither should Mancini yet. Give him one more season to get us to the knock out stages.

Plus the other team Napoli only went out to the eventual winners.

We should have performed better in this years group and got at least 7 points but the draws have been ridiculous. I still can't understand why with 2 groups left, Cluj weren't allowed in our group and we had to have Dortmund.

there is a partial excuse for Ajax at home - worst referee we have had since god knows when, truly appalling

I am sure it will be third time lucky and we will get out of next seasons group of Barcelona, PSG, Us and the only top club in Pot 4 :)-

Don't blame a Referee. You'll sound like Neil Warnock. Even a win against Ajax wouldn't have been enough.

That last minute goal from Madrid ripped the lads hearts out and they never recovered
Those Ajax games were horrible to watch
Dortmund are good but no team should dominate us like they did at our place

For first 25 mins yes... then Kun (twice) and Silva missed sitters before Dortmund scored.. or have you all forgotten... small margins.

Dortmund were in pot 4 this season and it didn't seem to do them any harm!!!
