It's a real bugbear of mine, teams wearing the away kit, when there's no real need for it. Is it REALLY a clash of colours when we play at Chelsea and Everton, for example. Or West Ham on the opening day. Is the sky blue sleeves on the Hammers kit enough of a clash? I realise we have worn our home kit at those grounds (and vice versa). Which just makes it all the more odd when we do change into our away kit. Marketing, I suppose. Did I also see somewhere that PL rules dictate that you need to wear your away/third kits x times a season, or is that a myth?
Remembering the time city played at home in the away kit at Maine road because the spurs away kit and home kit were too similar
Couldn't find any proof that we've worn the home kit at Chelsea in recent years, but we have at Everton....Probably chatting shit here but from my diminishing memory I think Everton and Chelsea always wear their home kit at ours and we never do at theirs.
I thought the same.
The strips were clearly too similar. It took me a few minutes to get used to which team was which.
Or maybe I’m just turning into an FOC.
Think the 2 games against Spurs were a few years apart. The first one we actually changed in the tunnel after about 10 minutes or so(which got a few ironic wolf whistles from The Kippax!) .We ended up wearing the black and red kit with blue socks(not a good look really!)Happened two seasons running I think. Once from the start and once we changed at half time.
It was a pretty misty day. The thought was that it'd be difficult for players and the officials to clearly see City playersThe 2nd one we wore maroon for some reason ,whilst they wore yellow!
We won both 2:1, so maybe we should always wear our away kit at home to Spurs!!
In with the high rollers that day, as opposed to the plebs, eh?I’m sure Boro turned up at Maine Road in the 80s and wore rag shirts. One of the rare times I sat in the main stand as usually in the Kippax.
