Classic Rock (Phil Collins lives, run for the hills)

It was certainly Dianno’s best work I think, and they still hold up today.
I don’t know what sort of a man he was outside of his music, maybe others can add to that, but that that was no age to pass.
Still think it was Maiden's best work, Bruce is okay especially in his first stint but these are the albums and the band I bought and went to see numerous times as a 16/17 year old following the birth of NWOBHM and they mean the most to me. Personalty wise don’t know much about him , but seems to me he never had the personalty to handle the pressure of a band as big as Maiden were becoming without ‘coping substances’, similar to why Pete Willis ended up out of Leppard.
Anyway part of my growing up with a love of music has left us.

Truth be told, I tended to view Maiden as a poor man's Judas Priest in the early days and only collected most of (but not all) their albums in more recent times.

Saw them live a good few times when they started out. They supported quite a few bands. Most notable was in Long Beach in 1981 when they supported UFO and, courtesy of Ross Halfin, my friend and I were guests of UFO, so we were backstage. Didn't meet any of Maiden though.

A friend saw PD recently in concert and thought he was really good, despite his terrible health issues.

R.I.P.

RIP.
Those 2 albums were the best they ever did IMO. Raw and edgy. Couldn't listen to them after he left.

I was never a fan of Iron Maiden really, only saw them once in their early days at UMIST (supported by Saxon and the great Nutz) but always preferred the Di'Anno stuff. I can never take to Dickinson's 'air raid siren' voice.

He struggled terribly with the pressures of Maiden, and hit the marching powder big time. Sad for him to pass so. R.I.P.
