Brooking was incredibly over-rated at a time when England had the worst team in their history. Yes even worse than now (at a time when few foreigners played in the First Division) For me Milner is a better player.
Believe me when I say that there was not any ambiguity in Crimson's comments. He could not contain his animus to the extent that he repeated it in consecutive matches. I have never heard him comment about any other player similarly.Plays By Sense Of Smell said:I know it's a Crimson Clive bashing thread, but I'm struggling to see why that comment shoud be interpreted as an insult to Milner?
Surely he's suggesting that despite the hyperbole flung around about the Lampards and Beckhams reaching the hundreds, it's still quite a feat especially considering that people as good as Brooking couldn't manage it?
Hmmm, does sound a bit fishy when you mention that.silverback said:Believe me when I say that there was not any ambiguity in Crimson's comments. I wouldn't say Brooking played in a worse team in the 70s than the current team .bobbyowenquiff said:Brooking was incredibly over-rated at a time when England had the worst team in their history. Can't find any footage on youtube and didn't watch the game itself as there was a programme about a fat girl losing weight that was more appealing.
Have since noticed a few comments around the web pointing out the apparently venomous aspect of his delivery. Shame there aren't punditry panels and match ratings for commentators.
There's an idea - a footy channel where the audience can vote and with enough swing the commentator gets voted off mid match for the standby. Could 'come back on' if the standby gets booed too bit like a pass the parcel based on how good your performance is!
