Good point. I'm not in favour of Lancashire symbolism, apart from a bit of nostalgia over the rose as that badge was 'City' for so long (but I'd take the rivers over it every time). It's the reasoning against it (that we aren't considered part of Lancashire anymore) that was annoying me a bit. That something that stood for hundreds of years and for which significant wars were fought that we would disregard for something that doesn't make any sense and has lasted 42 years (half a lifetime, which is nothing in the scheme of things).
Just politicians in this country have no regard for the culture of this country. Ireland, Scotland, Wales have retained a lot of their original culture and actively promote it. We have a culture that is just as celtic that is totally disregarded - the only difference being that Cornish is the only surviving language in England (and some bits of Cumbric still spoken).
The only cultural thing to see about England nowadays is fish and chips.
Being Lancastrian I totally agree with your post even the rivers bit it's probably a nostalgia thing for me 2 or a protest against the arseholes that run our country not that the last bit has anything to do with our badge
