Club Badge (merged)

Good point. I'm not in favour of Lancashire symbolism, apart from a bit of nostalgia over the rose as that badge was 'City' for so long (but I'd take the rivers over it every time). It's the reasoning against it (that we aren't considered part of Lancashire anymore) that was annoying me a bit. That something that stood for hundreds of years and for which significant wars were fought that we would disregard for something that doesn't make any sense and has lasted 42 years (half a lifetime, which is nothing in the scheme of things).

Just politicians in this country have no regard for the culture of this country. Ireland, Scotland, Wales have retained a lot of their original culture and actively promote it. We have a culture that is just as celtic that is totally disregarded - the only difference being that Cornish is the only surviving language in England (and some bits of Cumbric still spoken).

The only cultural thing to see about England nowadays is fish and chips.

Being Lancastrian I totally agree with your post even the rivers bit it's probably a nostalgia thing for me 2 or a protest against the arseholes that run our country not that the last bit has anything to do with our badge

Last night Blue Tuesday did a really good show about the Badge situation and what the club are doing, how they have been going about it etc. Was really informative also had a historian on talking about all the badges city have had and what they all meant was a really interesting listen.

I don't really have an opinion for or against changing the badge, but I am glad I support a club which is asking it's followers what they would like, obviously they not going to be able to please everyone, but the fact they are attempting something as complex as this makes me happy I support City. They could have changed the badge without consulting us like other clubs have done, they haven't and weather you are against the change or not. It's good they are asking.

municipal technical; college? never heard of it........must be a student thing

the ship cannot look like this

It needs to be the same as on the Manchester coat of arms ....

It needs to be nowt like that *....unless you're going to down to manchester university and informing them that technically speaking they've got the wrong ship (non flat). This club turned in 08...the stylised ship that's been used before perfectly illustrates that point that can never now be changed...the fact it's on the university/college is not without irony for this city...we know all about colleges in beswick and Barnes dont we?

It needs to be the same as on the Manchester coat of arms not anything Manchester Uni has. Or some strange named college no ones heard of

Been watching City since 67 so seen all the crests not got any great preference as to what is on the badge I like the current badge apart from the stars, I like the three rivers and get that, I like the rose and get that,

Born and bred in Bolton which to most of us in that neck of the woods never had an affiliation to Greater Manchester, I now live in Tyne and Wear but to most Geordies is Northumberland

I've got family in Bolton mate, and they feel the same as you, they've got no affiliation to Greater Manchester, they still feel part of Lancashire.

If we were talking about a Bolton badge, I could totally understand there being a clamour for the Lancashire rose. But we're not. We're talking about Manchester City.

I don't know a single Mancunian under the age of 50 that feels Lancastrian. Not saying they don't exist, but I've never met one.

I grew up with the rose badge, I loved it and was gutted when we changed. But time moves on, the rose is not relevant to Manchester anymore.

Maybe it is to Bolton, Wigan, Bury, wherever, good for them. But in my view the badge should represent the city, not the county where some of its fans call home.

That was me. Just completed the last mcfc badge talk today. I genuinely wish all fans could've attended because it gave us all chance to speak our minds plus I think, though only those that came can say I guess, that everyone gained something. I keep seeing myths about our badges and the process (not necessarily on here but across the media) so I would urge people to visit the consultation space, do the questionnaire and find out all you can about every element of the badge. Some, but not all, if my slides from the talks are here https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10153236441762816.1073741832.289818652815&type=3

I may post others if I get the chance, but remember the consultation ends on 14th. Comments on here are great, but the questionnaire MCFC have compiled is where views have to be recorded to guarantee the club will look at them. Cheers

We have a culture that is just as celtic that is totally disregarded - the only difference being that Cornish is the only surviving language in England (and some bits of Cumbric still spoken), which is essentially the original British language (more or less Welsh), it differed very slightly throughout the island because it wasn't a written language.

The only cultural thing to see about England nowadays is fish and chips.

But I'm not saying we are not part of Lancashire my point is we are Manchester City not Lancashire City and we sing about Manchester not Lancashire.

I feel Mancunian not Lancastrian my views are we are represent Manchester not Lancashire not England not the UK.

My apologies I didn't catch your name on the show last night. But it was a great listen and I really enjoyed it. Was nice to hear the 92 year old lady call in as well, she was hilarious. Anyway keep up the good work and thanks again for sharing your knowledge last night.

I suspect if the Rose hadn't been part of the badge for as long as it has nobody would bat an eyelid think for majority is a nostalgia thing and I fully understand the Manchester thing and agree it should represent the City I also feel that being the case perhaps we should have something that represents a modern manchester but what that would be I have been out the loop for to long now

To be honest I think in todays footballing world the idea of representing Manchester doesn't exist the badge represents the club, yes the club is in Manchester, but trying to symbolise it wi important Manchester landmarks/facts etc doesn't really make sense anymore.
I would like our badge to be someone giving the fingers to the rest of the world because for me that's what it feels like to be a city fan :D

no way.........we do represent Manchester

I just don't see why there's such a fuss over the badge that we've had for almost 20yrs now....the crest IS now CIty, like it or not. Changing the badge again will just provide further ammunition to those who accuse us of selling our soul for oil money, etc. Regardless of whether we choose it ourselves, it'll be widely regarded as being implemented by the owners.

I don't see it that way at all. I think there has been an acceptance that the eagle badge which was implemented in 1997 was a huge mistake. There was no consultation done when that was introduced. The rose badge that was dismissed in 1997 was a firm favourite with thousands of fans...tradionalists and young bucks. I was in my late twenties and loved it. I still don't know how it managed to be lost to some copyright/license/trademark cock up enabling some third party to have the rights.
If City go back to that, the thirties badge or the 1972-1976 Coat of arms thingy then I will see it as the correcting of the mistake that needn't have happened in the first place. I pray the eagle ends up in the dustbin and City are rightfully represented with a proper mancunian badge that represents the City, the people and the Club.
