I think it looks good. It was always probably going to be a little "modern". It could have been way worse.

I think with the branding part maybe the club believe it is better to go forward with just Manchester City and not Manchester City Football Club.

Possible. Or they looked at a version with FC in it like the old one and decided they liked how Manchester stands out a lot more when it's centered up top by itself. 'Manchester City FC' has to be all in one word at the top or the alignment looks all jacked up.

Just to reiterate it'll look a lot better on Boxing Day, don't worry.

Feels a lot more "City" to me than the current eagle badge.
