Club Badge (merged)

FC after Manchester City & 1894 at the bottom of the circle?

Personally mate I like the "Football Club" bit written out like the NYCFC and Melbourne badges, gives it a bit of consistency.

If the 1894 was included, I'd have 18 at 9 o'clock and the 94 at 3 o'clock on the circle. I was never bothered about including the date, but I actually think it would open a lot of people's mind's around the world who have been force fed mass media garbage that we're a "petro club" that didn't exist before 2008.

Even in Germany when I went away to Dortmund we were chatting to some of their fans who thought we were a new club that had only been around for a few years.

Incuding the date might be a good and simple way of educating people that we're a club with a long history and encourage people to look in to it a bit more.

not our job to educate ignorant fans of other teams of our history ... the badge is for us, not them.

Thanks. I wouldn't get hung up on the German use of the Iron Cross, it predates Gorton AFC anyway from what I remember from my lessons on Bismark at school, but in terms of Gorton its appearance on the shirt is unclear. It could be connected to religion, it could be connected to freemasonry (my 'gut' feel), and some have even suggested it's connected to a campaign for men/boys to refrain from self abuse (I kid you not!). On Anna Connell... I've covered that in detail in . The opening chapters are free to read in the Look Inside function.

So the fans could have worn that cross pre 2008.

I disagree.

The badge should represent the city and also represent the club.

For me the ship and 3 river shield represent the city.

The sky blue and white colour scheme of my preferred badge represent the club, and I think the date would also represent the club and it's long and valuable history.

The main purpose of the badge is to represent the club, but if we can shatter some misconceptions in the process it's no bad thing.

Without sounding to American marketing consultant, the badge is our branding, and if there are misconceptions about our brand (namely that the club was founded in 2008) then including the 1894 date of inception squashes that myth straight away which for me is a positive thing.

i dont give a toss about idiots in the world that think we started when ADUG bought us, if they think that, then they arent proper football fans. ... our badge is for us, not designed for other fans to look at it and think ... oh why a ship, why 3 stripes, oh when were they formed, what does the eagle stand for?? .... frankly, they dont give a shit.

worry about what we want, sod everyone else who isnt associated the club or potential fans for the time being. Sort out the here and now. Focus on who really matter, not some if/who/whatever .... if you cant get it right for the present then the future is fucked either way.

rant over .... i'm going back to more important things to worry about now.

Not sure why so angry.

Of course the badge is for the fans, but whether we want it to be or not, it's also representative of the club to the rest of the world.

Any better with a golden eagle instead of an american bald eagle?

I think writing football club wastes too much space. FC for me. Don't like 1894 split either as it reads as two seperate numbers. Wish I could upload the rose badge I found to show you what I mean but it doesn't work. I uploaded it a hundred or so pages back lol
