Club Brugge (H) - CL - Post-Match Thread

It sold out, but it wasn’t full and that the attendance won’t have been what it says it was. Back of CBL3 and SSL3 had chunks of empty seats, the corporate areas were sparse in some areas, the 2-3 seats dotted about in most other blocks around ESL1 and FSL1, plus the away end only being ⅔ full.

I reckon it was easily below 50,000 actually in the ground.
Who cares?

Something definitely seems to be going on with Sterling imo given Pep’s reaction when asked about him there
It has been for months. It was obvious during the Euros with Sterling’s interviews there. I was pounced upon by domalino and others suggesting I was mishearing things.

Sterling wants to play every game.

His recent output means he doesn’t deserve to.

I hope he scores a hat trick at St James Park next month and they bid £200m for him.

I'd recommend watching this post match press conference from Pep.

He's in an incredibly bullish mood.
That was a brilliant watch. I love him when he’s confrontational with nobody journos. Marvellous the way he just got up and walked off at the end without even looking at them.

Pep is the greatest! Anyone that now thinks he doesn't get it, think again.
I only hope that his passion has permeated the squad, I believe it has. Saturday will be fookin brilliant. Can't wait.

For this game, happiest for Sterling for his goal. Can see from the celebration that it meant a lot for the others for Sterling to score that because Sterling himself wasn’t that elated for the goal.

Confidence player who’s lacking some self belief or demotivated by something that happened off the field. But after he scored there were clear glimpses of the Sterling that scored 20 in a season.

I’ll play him before Grealish at this point. Grealish needs time to figure out his role in this team and he can try that out in less volatile games. I’ll start Sterling for the derby.
100% agree. Both mahres and sterling should be ahead of grealish, who is had to impress

Best post match and press conference ever. Boy was he hyped. Nailed his colours to the mast.
We have won everything on our own, not because of who we are. These titles mean more to him than others he has won because we did it on our own... He is on a crusade, the injustice is his fire and he has the scum press in his cross hairs...

It was like this in many areas of the ground. Small chunks of seats here and there not taken up.
Jesus - you’re as bad as that MEN journalist who had his red marker pen out that time because he’d spotted a couple of empties ffs!

Just for the record - my seat has never been filled in the past 4 seasons, apart from one time when I couldn’t go as I was on holiday so put it back up for resale. That’s because it’s near the front of SS1 and I choose to stand with my mates further back.

Excellent turnout at the Etihad tonight. Selling over 50k tickets when not playing glamorous opposition is a good effort IMHO. Especially coming through the Covid crisis.

I’ve not read the last few pages but I’m guessing there’s Blues saying the real fans weren’t at the game tonight and the ground was full of tourists. That’s bollox but who cares.

the ground wasn’t full of tourists. It was like the Leipzig game.

When our tempo is too slow, we lose the advantage of being a great passing side. When we up it a bit, all is sweet. Proved for the umpteenth time in this game. Tempo, tempo, tempo.

I wonder if people are getting a bit more used to the mobile ticketing and that contributed to a good attendance. FWIW, I sorted tickets for 6 mates like I used to do before the lockdowns . It was a bit of hassle getting a couple of mates to link to others on Friends and Family and getting them to download Google pay. That said, having sorted that for last night’s game it should be straightforward for future matches.

Is it just me but i cannot see all the hype about Cancelo. I personally thing he's rubbish. I mean he is a professional player playing for the best team in the world and is a Portuguese International...But dont you get sick and tired of all the balls he gives away...The City site has Foden and Pep singing his praises. I just dont see it !. Especially after todays game. Nearly every time he has the ball he gives it away or the opposition end up with it. To me he's another Sane …Pep got rid of him so I dont know why he perseveres with Cancelo. Look at his feeble attempts for the two Liverpool goals and that sums him up...That is just my opinion which Im allowed . Play him in midfield if you want but not full back. Rashford will rip him to shreds on Saturday if we do.

This, two wide players in Mahrez and Grealish cutting inside slows everything down. Second half when Foden went left and Sterling went right it looked much better, we won the league with 100 points and the year after a treble playing that way.
