Club Brugge (H) - CL - Post-Match Thread

Stopped going years ago, watched on BT and in bed by 10:00pm.

The team didn’t play well and only got a grip when Mahrez headed the second. Lots off sloppy passing, poor marking and reluctance to shoot.

Big improvement needed for Saturday.

we were bad for about 20/25 mins other than that we controlled the game, should of scored more. And 2nd half really turned up a notch.

not sure this team didn't play well comment come from.

Corporate clearly wasn’t sold out and neither was the away end but the rest of the ground was. There are always no-shows amongst season ticket holders in direct correlation with how big the game is. My guess wouldn’t be 1000 ish for this one.
The capacity is reduced even further for CL, to around 51,400. So 50,228 is a very decent crowd, considering corporate & Bruges section didn’t sell out.

Jesus. Those first couple of mins were hard to get through with that journo incessantly asking what Pep meant about," No one helps us". Pep is fired up and I have no doubt that it will translate to the players come Saturday.
That was Simon Stone of the BBC who's a rag and as ugly on the outside as he is on the inside.

Loads of strangers in South level 3.
Easy to spot as they were all moving about after sitting in the wrong row.

I had season ticket holders coming up to me and my mate saying ‘your in our regular seats’ haha

I think it’s actually good not to alway sit in the same seats

The fluke own goal seem to knock us out of our stride. Got it sorted during HT and like you say turned up a notch second half, was on the front foot all half.

I'd recommend watching this post match press conference from Pep.

He's in an incredibly bullish mood.
Pep deals with these conferences better than I ever would, why don't any of them ask an interesting question? The stuff they ask is just so vacuous the whole things seems really pointless.

Yes, British Asians have always loved United and to a lesser extent Liverpool. Whenever you see pictures in their stadiums I'm always struck with how many there are. I wonder if they felt threatened at matches in the past but are now attending more.

We've never attracted them in the past for some reason.
'Nited and 'poo have always been the default teams for Asians and I would argue BAME people generally. Inevitably it was about gaining acceptance by following either of the red vermin.

It's changing a lot now though as young kids from all backgrounds are watching football 24/7 and probably thinking why there's such a reality gap between City and the rest. As an Asian I always thought we missed a trick not reaching out to other minorities in the same way that we have with the black community. Like I say the battle for hearts and minds will soon reach a tipping point and we'll not need a media/agenda thread!!!!

We can hope. Just to say stone really is a maggot dicked nothing who Pep clearly despises.

foden is great on the left I agree. but he does boss the false 9 as well.

Foden Jesus Mahrez is probably our best front 3.

But youd never like to second guess pep.

he could play Kev false 9 saturday
I don't think we have a best front three.

We have a front five from Grealish, Sterling, Foden, DeBruyne, Bernardo, Mahrez, Jesus and Gundogan where most players can play two or three different positions.
If they're all at their best it's very difficult to choose three of them not be in the team so it's down to current form where decisions have to be made.
On current form Foden and Bernardo are first on the list.
Grealish and Jesus are next.
Can't decide my fifth.

good result and for once we out sung the euro fans, mind you they didnt have much to shout about although they where a better team than over at their place.

some of the players need to stop to many back to back one / twos... Ok you get away with one but we tried 3 or 4 and in the penalty area. Some sloppy passes in the first half. But dictated the game, second half took over, great result.

not sure grealish likes being to wide, i support him 100%, the guy has talent.

great atmosphere though, throat a bit rough today. Tired from display, was at it from 1pm but worth every bit

I think we are getting more (occasional) fans who are attending the Champs League games on a fairly regular basis where they can get seats together with their mates. I noticed both at the Etihad and at the swamps, when I was in the Atalanta end, that loads of British Asians have really got into their football (or hoof ball at OT). They are different to the camera / wielding tourists IMHO.

While I am at it.

I had 5/6 young Asian lads set next to me in place of the usual season card holders.
It's just what is needed, new blood to replace us older legacy fans.

Nice touch mate.

Big mention for Palmer, whom yet again demonstrated that he is not far off the first team. Played his part in one of the goals and almost scored one himself. Fair play to the lad.
He will be a stalwart of the side in the near future I believe.
A very assured player with the confidence to take responsibility for passes/shots.
A future leader imo.

Other than a few scares in the 1st half, I honestly thought there was only one team who looked like winning the game. I think 4-1 was a fair reflection of the game.

I had Bernardo for MOTM - he was all over as usual, but I also could've picked Cancelo or Rodri and I thought Sterling caused problems when he came on.

Let's be honest, the game was really just a case of "how many" rather than being any real test. It was a job well done overall. In this group, we knew months ago which 2 teams would qualify so the decider with be against PSG to see who finishes 1st.

The real game this week is at the weekend.
Yes.
Let City put the pretenders to the throne to the sword.!

Good win and very good 2nd half showing, them missing that chance seemed to really waken us up and after that we were comfortable.
Good to see Raz come on and score. I wish Pep would give Grealish a chance through the middle. he played there for about 5 minutes start of the 2nd half and set up Mahrez for a 1 on 1 which he missed...shows that he can be much better centrally?
Usual regular Ederson mistake leading to a goal, trying to make a youtube showreel save from a shot my granny could have held.
Usual tedious Billy Biggest Blues on the match day thread, the ones who open with "I never usually go on the Match Day thread...", then proceed to post about 20 times each match, always to make some really unfunny comment which they think is brilliantly witty, when in fact it's the same turgid, predictable drivel they post every Match Day thread. Odd how they never actually post about the match itself.....their sole concern seems to be deriding other posters....how very useful.
Anyway, hopefully Raz is feeling more confident now.

Pep said "hierarchy" not high teams.

Zin is a better defender than Cancelo. Zin is a midfielder by trade.

Typical City!
Can say the same thing about Jesus and Torres on the wings + up front

Wonder how many other teams have the same
