Club Brugge (H) - CL - Post-Match Thread

Grealish seems much more effective in a 10 type role, where he has freedom to move through the lines and out wide when required. I think that's why Pep got him, in the hope that he would be an 8 like KDB is, but the demand of what is required in that 8 is so much. Ultimately, i think he will move inside, but we may have to change the dynamic of the team a bit.

Well done to 1894 on the return of the Ship in the South Stand. Good to see a display back and hopefully we will progress far enough to see a few more this season. Come on City
I was just hoping pre-kick off that the ship wouldn't run aground or sink without trace. I've just watched the highlights and it seems it was a bit of a romp in the end. Didn't feel like it at the time, though!

Without question the ground had thousands and thousands of kids including large number of what looked like school trips. Unlike in the past at some of these games there weren't high numbers of selfie-stick toting Asian tourist types (I've always wondered where they come from) but you can also spot casual fan/day tripper types with half and half scarves, bubble jackets etc. You just can.

It did affect the atmosphere because songs didn't travel around the stadium like they usually do. But we absulotely need all these new/casual fans to grow the club. It was great to see.
I think we are getting more (occasional) fans who are attending the Champs League games on a fairly regular basis where they can get seats together with their mates. I noticed both at the Etihad and at the swamps, when I was in the Atalanta end, that loads of British Asians have really got into their football (or hoof ball at OT). They are different to the camera / wielding tourists IMHO.

While I am at it.

I really enjoyed the game but I couldn’t get what we were doing in the first half playing overhit balls in the channels for Grealish and Foden to be outmuscled buy burly defenders.

Excellent second half performance and really glad to see Cole Palmer to get another run out.

The reason Cancelo is so good is that he has the courage to lose the ball. It's the same as KDB. He is brave enough to try and cross the ball, or shoot when the opportunity comes up. Yes, that means he loses possession every now and again, but it's also the reason why he got three assists and hit the post. The number of goals and assists he's chipping in from left-back is unbelievable.
Think he is a “frustrating” footballer…gives the ball away and the next moment comes up with a piece of brillance.

Yes, British Asians have always loved United and to a lesser extent Liverpool. Whenever you see pictures in their stadiums I'm always struck with how many there are. I wonder if they felt threatened at matches in the past but are now attending more.

We've never attracted them in the past for some reason.

great point. Sometimes winning is about taking risks. They don’t always come off

Yeah loads of large groups of young local lads having a great time singing on the concourse in ES1 pre match. You’ll always get the selfie obsessed tourists on CL nights, but when the individual matchday pricing is right like last night then many who are otherwise priced out can really help the atmosphere. Hamburg at hime being a prime example

Agree. There was loads of large groups of young local lads last night. That’s because of the pricing. You don’t see those same lads at all for prem games. Pricing is the key.

I would love to see Sterling capture his best form and I think he believes scoring goals will win Pep over when all he needs to do is make the right decisions. There was a moment in the game where he cut in and was moving across the box when he was looking, desperately to shoot when a ball to Foden would have resulted in a tap in. You could see that Foden was frustrated he didn't get the ball. Just needs to be aware and make the right decisions. We need his pace but it is useless without an end product.

we’ve never really attracted Asian fans from Manchester. It’s only really United and Liverpool that do.

even some of what you might call tourist fans - I met a large number of young lads from Northern Ireland last night.

Haven’t seen so many young teenage lads in the SS for years, great to see and these are the future. Was same at West Ham away carabao.

and thus the answer is painfully obvious. reduce the fucking prices for the PL home games. Younger lads bring the atmosphere and get hooked for life but can be priced out

See my other post. Sterling on the right. Foden takes back that role on the left he lost to Grealish, Jesus False 9. Last season’s team restored.

foden is great on the left I agree. but he does boss the false 9 as well.

Foden Jesus Mahrez is probably our best front 3.

But youd never like to second guess pep.

he could play Kev false 9 saturday

Loads of strangers in South level 3.
Easy to spot as they were all moving about after sitting in the wrong row.

decent crowd for Brugge i thought.

Apart from a mad 20 plus mins in the first half we were in control of that.

If that was PSG mind you they'd of took us apart in that daft spell.

Flukey own goal wasn't it.

When Palmer struck that ball i thought he's scored again haha

Thing is, we won't play like that against PSG. Point taken though.

For anyone following my quest of getting a scarf for my son in the pre match thread(and slated for it).

it was £10 from the random bloke selling half/half scarfs (no thanks!) and £12 from the city store so went with the obvious.

my son then refused to wear it for the game… so I had to wear it then
