I can't see big European teams refusing to take part on the grounds that some fans don't like it.Just read a piece on the BBC website about this competition. It's the most contrived "competition" I've ever seen, teams 'selected' to take part rather than winning anything in particular to qualify, engineered to generate money every four years and nothing else. I get it that the clubs stand to make money but I'd love it if City and maybe a couple of other "big" teams declined to take part. It's been heading this way for a while but football is becoming an 'entertainment show' rather than a sport. I'd much rather watch a plucky lower league team play CIty in the FA Cup after winning their way through the rounds than Inter Miami play City because it's "box office' and Inter Miami have Messi.
Cash is king and has been since 1992. Whilst parts of the criteria for being eligible to compete appear to be dubious (you could argue similar for the CL), I agree with the principle of having a global club competition that is meritocratic. Why should the stage be hogged by European teams playing in UEFA competition?
