Club's "traditional" away kit colour's

Despite the tory Scouse initially playing in Blue and White halved shirts...

Two of our first three FA Cups were won wearing maroon shirts and white shorts, iirc it was only Malcolm Allison who brought in the red and black stripes
Think away strips started more regularly from 1950 and were maroon with white pinstripes, so yes our ‘traditional‘ combination. That said, there’s Pathe news footage of us losing in the Cup at the Den in 1937, where we appear to be wearing white shirts and black shorts, and I’ve also seen footage of us at Tottenham in the early 1960s, I think, where we are wearing yellow. It wasn’t luminous yellow mind…

If ever you want to piss a Geordie off, or a Makem, remind them that Newcastle's original colours were red and white

They changed because they were forever borrowing the county's kit as lots of teams played in red
They ultimately made the decision to change permanently to Northumberland's colours

I think it might have been metioned before, 1910's or so, rags and dippers wanted everyone to wear red for home and white for away.
Somewhat ironically, that’s pretty much how baseball was in the US from its inception in the 1870s through to around the 1960s. The home team wore white and the away team wore grey.

I was going to post the same thing. Those of a less FOC persuasion would probably go with red and black stripes as our traditional away kit. I was born in 1962, and I have no recollection of maroon being our away kit when I started going in the seventies.
I was born 1962 too and I love the red and black stripes.

Like you I have no recollection of maroon as our traditional away colours although I believe the evidence is against us.

I always prefer us to play in yellow away from home, although at the minute I'd accept them in anything if they could play away from home :)
