instead of about 15 bases the coalition wants to shut most & leave only 3 & they tell us the service wont be affected
And this affects Manchester how exactly?
well thousands of people from Manchester & elsewhere spend many hours each year on the sea or by the sea & many have got into difulcties .it makes sense if some one needs help on the North West Coast that some one from that area can organise help just as what has been happening very efectivly for many years till this motley crew of a goverment want to spend all our money waging wars .

I have no idea to be honest but im sure the people they dispatch will know the area otherwise if the boat is coming from from Felixstowe you aint got much chance. I also have no idea how much work they have in a year. Its obviously not good as people are using there job but i doubt they would do it if they really thought it would endanger people to an extent where it is a seriously bad idea.
In all honesty i dont like the coast so i dont go often and if i do its not for our shitty beaches but if somehow i got stuck out i would ring 999 but until today i wouldnt of asked for coast guard as i wasnt sure we had 1. Surely you dont have to directly contact RNLI otherwise they would never get used. The Royal Navy i was talking more ferry sinking or tanker being battered in a storm
You know where is Felixstowe is compared to Morecambe? And I'm not trying to make a fool of you, you're a good mate. What I'm saying is somebody will be caught out and phone 999 and give a description of the land around them, they could be from anywhere in the UK/World local knowledge would be more chance than somebody 400 miles away who has no knowledge of a certain length of coast.

Look through the link and we are no where near busy period yet, some areas get 40-80 calls A DAY (Source friend is a coastguard voluntary watch in Scotland)

Wow they are some serious numbers. Obviously i know where Felixstowe and Morecambe are they are some distance from each other. I see where your coming from with the understanding of the area what i was getting at is that the people sent to help will be from the area and will know the area so its a matter of relaying the information. Not great but then again i didnt realise how many people got into trouble on a daily basis, im shocked
Fair enough Sean, CG saves a hell of a lot of lives p/a RNLI is overstretched and is a CHARITY, donate (this goes out to everyone reading this) they get fuck all government aid
" 4. The RNLI's annual running costs are around £120.2M - approximately £330,000 per day - and, as a registered charity, the organisation continues to rely on voluntary contributions and legacies for income, and receives no UK Government funding."

Sorry i must of missed the headline of NATO is helping Gaddafi by killing innocent civilians! Okay there was a major accident the other day which should not be ignored but they didnt target them

Anyway its off topic and tuertsboots is making a great point about supporting the RNLI

Are we saving lives in 'Stan/Libya? We have to pull out at some point and we will, 'Stan Soviets gave up, we were there in the 1800s and lost-we are trying to change a tribal mentally, will never happen.
There way of live and we should respect that.
