Our team got CL winners potential.. How bout giving the team time to gel? We spend sooo much money on young talented players, what's the point if you don't give them a little time and just replace them at the first opportunity if we don't win immediatelyBlueJill said:Nelly's Left Foot said:Lescott is playing very well and a fully proven premier league player and we have Kolo in reserve (plus Micah can move over if we have a crisis) so a player more for the future sounds right to me.
Fed up of hearing about Lescott being the weak link. I just don't think he is.
Then who is? If your answer is nobody, then we should be ready to win the CL.
Only saw the highlights, he conceded a stonewall penalty that the ref got wrong. Apart from that he made an excellent clearance and seemed to play reasonably. Though Chelseas attack didn't feature much I had the impression it was more due to Liverpools midfield than their defense. I would need to see a lot more of him to make any kind of a judgement to be honest. The Fat el Hombre said:Anyone see any of coates play for Liverpool last night? My mate said he was frighteningly good but he's a Liverpool fan so he probably would.

He's obviously comfortable on the ball but I also think he needs to bulk out a bit to handle the likes of Kevin Davies, Agbonlahor, Kenwyne Jones that he will meet week-in, week-out in the PL.
I'd like to see him going out on loan to one of the Bolton's, Wigan's, Blackburn's (like Boyata) of the PL where he will really have to put in a shift and be bombarded by attackers all the time.
In regards to Lescott, I'm in two minds, I'm not confident he is CL quality but you can't knock the fact for two season we have had the joint best defensive record in the PL. I do worry that if VK or JL get injured our backups are Kolo or Savic (not bad but also not great) but I don't think we need to spend £20m+ on a CB.
Personally I'd go for Cahill or Chivu on a free. Cahill is english, right age range and probably in our back 4 would improve another level, similar to Clichy. Downside would be he might hinder development of Boyata, Savic & (eventually) Rekik. Chivu would probably be best, bags of experience and only for a couple of years (making him 33 or so) which would give our youngsters the couple of years they need to then slot straight in provided they continue to show promise.
