Cole Palmer

No point in keeping unhappy players, but I was surprised Zinchenko, Gundoghan and Palmer seemed to want away, they were all getting, or about to get, plenty of game time, in arguably the best team. There must surely have been something going on behind the scenes.

Palmer wasn't getting plenty of game time and he still wouldn't be now. Zinchenko was starting every season as a back up and then ending up replacing the latest failed experiment at left back, doing ok, and then starting the next season a second choice again. Gundogan is 33, had just won a treble and was being offered one last big challenge at one of the world's most iconic clubs in a great city.

All of those moves made total sense without it having to mean anything weird is going on behind the scenes. The only one of those players I think we really wanted stay was Gundogan really.

On the whole we have an incredible record when it comes to retaining top players

Gundogan had wanted to sign for Barcelona, he was a fan of theirs

...and letting them go at the right time.

Cole had a good game today, but he largely disappeared after that dribble that resulted in the save from Ederson, until he took the penalty.

I thought Sterling was their best player throughout, not Cole, and I thought Phil was as good as either.

And his bird was moaning about the “culture”, “food” and “weather”. Manchester is hardly Barcelona and let’s be fair tapas beat a pasty barm any day.

I genuinely believe fans underestimate how much of this hits being a job it is for plenty of players.

Yep Gundogan's departure was a disappointment, but not a surprise. And Palmer clearly wanted to go, to get more game time. There's been precious few players in this current phase of our history who have been blocked from moving, once they express a desire to go. If the club gets an acceptable offer, we'll let them go. Zinch was a bit more of a shot out of the blue. To me, anyway. Didn't he have the chance to go to Wolves a few years back, but decided to stay and fight for his place? Was he the most gifted player at the club? No, of course not. But he always gave his all. And I guess that, once we'd secured Haaland's services, Jesus' chances were going to be limited.

Speak for yourself! Bloody foreign muck. Give me pie, chips and gray-veh any time.

I love my tapas, but a Gregg’s certainly has its place
