Cole Palmer

...and letting them go at the right time.

Cole had a good game today, but he largely disappeared after that dribble that resulted in the save from Ederson, until he took the penalty.

I thought Sterling was their best player throughout, not Cole, and I thought Phil was as good as either.
I can’t work out why Sterling isn’t in the England squad.

Agreed but i bet his attitude made it easier for a public display of saying we want him to stay = pushes up the price. Maybe what should happen is a proper look at the academy in terms of what they are there for, if it is the Chelsea develop and sell on model fair enough, but that is pretty soulless
It is why it’s there though. Our team is too good for most of our academy stars.

That’s why we sell most and recoup £50m+ a season.

Palmer was obviously borderline for Pep and he either had to be patient or he’d ask to go. He chose the latter to play week in and week out for one of the leagues other big clubs.

On a side note, the academy might dry up a bit as we can’t buy EU players until they’re 18. That came in a couple of years back, so it will be interesting to see how that changes how we operate and how the output changes.

Luckily for us though we develop our own local talent as well, that's why chelsea now have a very good player, I don't think Cole would have ever been regular under Pep, so best for him was to try it somewhere else, and he's making a good job of it so far.

And his bird was moaning about the “culture”, “food” and “weather”. Manchester is hardly Barcelona and let’s be fair tapas beat a pasty barm any day.

I genuinely believe fans underestimate how much of this hits being a job it is for plenty of players.
I think Txiki realized we got most of Gundogan's prime years and we would be sitting on dead money if we gave him the contract that Barcelona did. I think the club makes a concerted effort to not have dead money contracts with aging players.

For sure, and I’ve no doubt that the Troyes academy will be chock a block with players learning the CFG way.

Having a smaller pool to pick from geographically will obviously mean City can’t have as many prodigies as we could have when we could sign European youngsters.
