Cole Palmer

I think it was @domalino who said perhaps Bobb (and other young players at City) are watching Palmer's rise with keen eyes.
With zero disrespect, he is playing for a team that is mid table in the premier league and having a half decent if unspectacular season i wouldnt say that is a massive rise but it depends what you want from football.

I felt the disrespect oozing out of you there ;)

But yeah, the rise is ongoing. No one is saying he has completed football. Just that he was on the fringes of the team at City, and now one of the best players in an, admittedly, struggling team and he's made into the England squad.

Kalvin phillips is consistently in the england squad as is harry maguire, i really dont consider making the england squad as a bastion of quality especially with that waste of a waistcoat in charge.

I'm not saying it is, but clearly it's a milestone for young players coming through the ranks, and that along with his rise in stature within the league, his increased exposure, both via playing every week for a big club and through his own top performances, 'rise' a fair descriptor of Palmer this season. Obviously the rise is ongoing and he will need to keep performances up and keep developing.

I do think it's impressive that he's scored against Arsenal (Community Shield), Sevilla (Super Cup), Arsenal, Tottenham, City, and the Rags so far this season. A fair number of penalties, admittedly, but you need balls to consistently score in such big games regardless

I'd argue the penalty vs City was harder and required more mental fortitude than 90% of all goals scored by any player this season.

They didn't treble and he wasn't given anything like that for signing.
He 100% received that amount when signing on and his wages are now £100k+. That has come from someone very, very close to him and his family. My understanding was that he was on around £35k at City and he is now on circa £100k pw. Not saying he moved for money, I just think he moved as for whatever reason he didn't think he would play much at City. IMO he is too good a player to sit on the bench but whether or not he will reach elite levels at Chelsea, I am not sure.

It’s only my opinion but with the money we have spent to improve the academy over these last few years we are now starting to crop the fruit we sowed. There is bound to be a bruised pear or soggy banana along the way and in Palmer we had neither but a lad who wants to play and if that’s at another club so be it. On the bright side are all the little gems we are getting with our investments.

And you would be right. I don't get all these negative views on Palmer. There is a very good player in there. Apparently, he thought it would be better for him to be somewhere else. I'm not sure what the club thought, just that they couldn't, or didn't want to, offer him what he wanted. I wish him all the best. If he succeeds it raises the profile of other academy players. Fine by me.

I think he's fine. I'd rather have Oscar and Rico. And there's not really a place for him in our team, otherwise.
