Cole Palmer

The problem as I see it is the level we operate at now, players have to “ready” to get in our first 11 or be regulars in the 15/16 main heads.

Our standards and expectations are so high we don’t have time / room for players who aren’t “ready”.

Cole is clearly very talented and can clearly pull magic out of his sleeve at any given moment.

The issue is, nowadays, in this team, that simply isn’t enough. The “rest” of it needs to be there. That consistency, control and authority.

I think it’s best for both sides if we either loan him out to a premier league club where he’ll get loads of games or sell him with with a reasonable buy back inserted.

I think he’d be mustard at somewhere like Celtic or Rangers or a comfortable mid table prem club like Brentford / West Ham / Palace.
This really is a nonsense post. Why did we buy Grealish or Ake or Bernardo or Rodri then? According to your logic, all of them should have been sold or loaned out because they weren't performing at the highest standards. I'm sure Rodri would have done a great job in the Palace midfield. It's perfectly possible to come into the team and grow into it.
I think this lad is a talent and have thought so for some time. The next stage of his development (he did play a bit last year) would be to play more and gain more confidence, get that City mentality fine tuned with a view to kicking on and being an important member of the squad.

You would like to think that the professionals at City tasked with the responsibility of coaching and developing our youth teams also have the appropriate tools at their disposal to intelligently predict those players most likely to make it at City under the current manager..

Yes but our wingers don't really do that often as it risks losing possession, the way Grealish has adapted his game being a perfect example.
Don’t need wingers to lose possession, we have Akanji (admittedly playing out of position) to do that.

If only he was called Coleo Palmero this board would be gagging for him to sign.

As it is it seems we're 50/50.

Not every player in the squad needs to be a world class one I think where we fall down is Pep not making enough subs especially as most games are won by 60 mins....and yes I know last season in one home match making subs almost cost us.
Bull shit, we've got many more English players than most top PL sides. The fact that Palmer has been around training and the first team for a while and isn't a more regular starter means that Pep doesn't think he's quite at the right level yet, or he hasn't figured how to incorporate him. It's nothing personal and it's certainly not because he's English. Also, I don't see anywhere that City want rid of him, he is the one who is contemplating moving on, I understand his reasons, but if it were me at his age, I would be hanging around for another year and see if I could break through. As the likelihood is, he'll never get another chance to play for the team he supports (who are also the best team in the world managed by the best manager in the world)

yes exactly. I said this and had a load of people come on and say "know better than Pep do you". Be prepared for the backlash by suggesting Cole or Rico or McAtee etc should come on for a good 20mins when we're 2 or 3 nil up.

Its more of a case if say Leroy or Jesus had come from the youth would they been in a position to start at the same age as they did when we bought them, personally I believe not a cat in hells chance.

One day people will realise that Grealish performs the way he does because he’s instructed to and he’s probably the best player in the side that does the retention of possession high up the pitch. A place where Pep is more than aware that giving up the ball in those areas is likely to cause us the most damage through counter attacks.
I can understand folk not liking it for whatever reason and wanting their wingers to fly down the flank beating 3 men and whipping one in but then that just shows that they haven’t bothered paying attention to what the manager wants, and ultimately has been successful at.

That's what I don't get about all this winger talk. A quick winger who beats a man, gets to the byline then puts a cross in? He would have that drilled out of him by Guardiola before he started a game. Grealish has, Mahrez had. Did we hear Guardiola in the post-match presser? City played better when they recycled the ball over to the other wing if there is no space. He doesn't want wingers taking risks and losing the ball. He wants low-risk, high percentage possession, then when there is space, pass into it. Criticising Grealish and Palmer, and previously Mahrez, for not taking their fullbacks on is a bit of a nonsense to me.
