Cole Palmer

FFS how many more times must people like you need telling ?? City didn`t make any mistake in selling him. He wanted to fuck off.The only thing City didn`t guarantee was playing time. End of debate.

Exactly

NO player should be guaranteed game time at City. You earn your spot like the rest.

Palmer chose not to stay and force his way into the team and that's fine. It's his choice.

We lost a very good player and it's a move that's working out great for him. We probably got the shitty end of the stick here but that's life. At the time, it wasn't the wrong decision. He wanted to move because we dont guarantee people playing time.

Maybe given where we stand now we should rethink some of those hard and fast rules. Keep Palmer, Lavia and THB Im guessing right now we have 11 more points.

Ridiculous talent. Shame he’s playing for Chelsea but a joy to watch. Loved his panenka today.

No he's not. Are you not paying attention? He is a player having a good season in a poor team because he is allowed complete freedom to do what he wants and let's judge him on his second third fourth season to see how good he will be. And he doesn't affect games much, disappears in big games, and only scores penalties anyway. Also, he wanted to leave for two years and is a rag anyway so fuck him.

Or, using reported quotes, he wanted more playing time and for two years wanted to go out on loan (like say McAtee who did for two years for some reason), Guardiola said no loan, stay or leave, so he left for what, at the time, appeared a good fee. Simple as that. Mistake by the club? Possibly. Stubbornness from Guardiola? Maybe. Mistake by Palmer? Hard to see. Mistake not having a buy-back? Definitely.

I don't see why that is such a controversial topic to discuss.

And good luck to him. Good player. Always was.

So you think the club should guarantee young players game time? That's just setting a precedent that's not gonna turn out well a lot of the time.

All we can do with the likes of Palmer is say he can stay and fight for his spot like others have had to. He didn't fancy his chances and moved.

I'd rather miss out on a good player now and again than start caving into demands of game time from unproven players at the time. We were the best team in the world when he left and he didn't fancy his chances at becoming a regular starter.

Why did the club loan McAtee out for two seasons? Would it be to get more game time and experience? Why didn't Palmer get the same chance?

This "he wanted guaranteed game time or he wanted to leave" narrative is a bit tedious.

I believe Palmer is a good footballer and is being overrated by the media, just so they could rub it in the face of Pep, However, I really want to agree with most of the things you mentioned, but the part about earning your spot is just one that I'm struggling with. Like how do we talk about earning your spot and then keep a reserved spot for Jack? How does anyone justify flogging Palmer off while retaining the "services" of Jack?

Because the club were counting on him to be a first team squad member that would certainly be expected to get plenty of minutes. We would have needed to replace him in the squad if he had gone out on loan. Therefore we wanted to keep him but if not, sell him so we had the money to replace him. I don't think the club were counting on McAtee for the seasons he was out on loan.

It's worked out well for him at Chelsea but I very much doubt he'd be putting those numbers up for us if he had stayed (I doubt he'd have been taking the penalties for a start!). The role he has at Chelsea suits him and not having to play against packed defences every game certainly helps.

We sold this baller and got Jeremy Doku. Ffs this club never ceases to amaze me. Ffs
Doku shouldn’t be getting shit just because Palmer is amazing. Doku has the ability to become a special player himself and is only 22. Didn’t look too bad in his last start and did things Palmer could never do. Completely different players and even play in different positions. So we could have kept Palmer and still signed Doku.
