Cole Palmer

Not really it was 4-3 to us and we gifted Chelsea the opportunity. He wasn't brilliant in open play at Stamford Bridge. Same with the 1-1 draw in the corresponding fixture.

He was brilliant from open play in both games. The last minute penalty was just the icing on top of a very good performance imo.

Pep made the right decision. We got 40m for an unproven player, it was the right decision and people need to move on.

There's a reason why Southgate didn't allow for Palmer to start any of the games, it's because Palmer is not a team player. It's the same reason why Pep never gave him a chance. It's the team that wins titles, not any one player. I saw pundits talking about his 100% penalty record being the highest ever in the epl as being some sort of achievement.. is laughable. Every time this guy does something the media tries to paint a narrative as if he is prime Messi. Not too long ago, people were raving about how he scored 4 goals in the first half which is the first time in the EPL history, but it shouldn't even count because one of the goals was from a penalty.

If you remove his penalties from his stats, he is probably no more than an average mid table player.

If he was so amazing last season, why did Chelsea finish 6th? The boy is clearly overrated. I would take Doku over Palmer every day of the week.
You had me there till the last sentence. Good one.

The performances themselves were great, is what I'm saying.
What I like best about Palmer is that he is throwback to another era. Perhaps he doesn't do it every week but he is fantastic. A maverick like Rodney Marsh for City or Charlie Cooke was for your team. Personally I am gutted we have lost him. He is just pure box office gold, the sort of unpredictable player people buy tickets to watch.

I agree, he’s that kind of maverick. Not that similar but he gives the same feelings of joy that I used to get when we had Hazard, or in my childhood, Zola.

I think this ‘doesn’t do it every week’ thing (which is absolutely true btw) is really a modern day way of judging a player (not saying you’re doing this, but I have seen a lot of it when he has a quiet game). I’m old enough to remember when Zidane, Ronaldinho, Rivaldo, Figo etc were playing. Zidane, for example, had countless games where he was quiet and ineffective, even during his prime. Do people think the Ronaldinho they see in YouTube comps is the same electric player in every single game? No chance.

These days, Palmer or Foden or Saka has a quiet game, and the knives are out for them immediately.

He's got the confidence and arrogance to match the talent, he knows he's a top player.

That's quite often what separates the good players from the top players.

He's got the kind of arrogance that I wish Foden had, but I think its something you've either got or you haven't.
