Cole Palmer

A loan is the last resort but selling him is the worst thing imaginable?

A loan my last resort for me this season I meant from my point of view, selling him isn't even worth thinking about it really wouldn't make sense.

He's under contract until 2026 a good amount of time to develop, he's not going to drop in value between now and the start of next season even if he doesn't make it here.

Surely this is the problem though. Why are we bothering keeping him around if we are trying to force him into a role he is no good in.

He has magic in his boots, if hes in the right team. We aren't going to be changing our team to fit him and 99% of the minutes he has had for us have been pretty ordinary.

Personally I think Pep has purposely played him out of position in order to make him more versatile, Cole Palmer has been allowed to play solely on the right for his academy career.

Pep probably sees that as a waste and thinks he has qualities to play wide left and attacking midfield, he might even persist with that at times but maybe with Mahrez leaving, it'll get Cole more chances in his favourite position and if he gets them hopefully he'll take them.

I am not sure about losing Cole Palmer permanantely unless there is a buyback clause (somehow I doubt Brighton will accept that). Still needs to move out on loan

He needs to go out on loan as I just think he isn't really kicking on as much as he should be doing.

It's hard to compare him to Foden, but he looks miles off Foden's ability and doesn't seem to be following that path to the first team. I think for his benefit, playing at Brighton really would do him good as they seem to have a real knack of developing players.

I've only seen him play for City, not the reserves. I know it's not a popular opinion but I'm not sure he's good enough for us. Unless something spectacular happens with him, I just don't see him anywhere near the level we need.

Whatever you think of those displays Cole is superior to Gomes to think otherwise is nonsense, he rarely played early on in that u21 tournament and had to work his way in, plus England without Palmer wouldn't have even made the final let alone won it.

Angel Gomes professional football career so far:

113 games
7364 minutes
12 goals
14 assists
+
(England u21: 18 games 0 goals)

That's while being bright and confident after improving much, because he's played first team football these past few seasons.

Cole Palmer professional career so far:

41 games
1542 minutes
5 goals
5 assists
+
(England u21: 13 games 4 goals)

While being nearly two years younger, used very sparingly at times without many minutes at a time, generally playing out of position and yet to find his groove yet. Still though even if he carried on this trajectory without much improvement, he'd very likely be bettering those Gomes numbers.

If Palmer was at a team where he had the same amount of chances as the ex rag even out of position, then his numbers for goals and assists would defo be much higher than Angel Gomes I've no doubt.

He's got higher potential without question, and he's already a better player than him too in my opinion.
I like palmer but isn’t Gomes a DCM

Palmer may not fancy going to Brighton on loan , but especially pertinently, it a bit if a drop off
