Cole Palmer

“Excellent”?! He was very very raw!

Bit harsh mate... He's a player in development who's not exactly had many chances yet to get beyond 'raw'.

His performances in the Community Shield and Super Cup were outstanding for a player of his experience.

Who were you expecting to be as good as? Colin Bell?

When finally given a chance in his proper position on the right, in the charity shield and super cup, he was excellent

He needs a run of games imo. And nothing to say he wouldn't get that at some point, even as a 'squad' player here. Whether he is willing to take that risk though is the question.

This late on the window, you would think any club looking to buy him would be making moves by now.

Didn't we turn down an offer from Brighton, who probably don't want to pay the add on clauses when Chelsea come calling in 12 months time.

To be fair, since Burnley, we've made only 2 subs in 3 games, and we've never been in a comfortable position in any game.
Which points to Pep not liking/trusting what he sees on the bench...

For the kids (Lewis, Bobb etc) & Ortéga it's understandable. However, for Palmer (who's at a make or break age) & Philips, it's evident they don't feature in Pep's plans.

If they did, we wouldn't have signed Doku, & be negotiating for Nunes who can be groomed into the CDM we need to challenge & rotate with Rodri.

If our reported interest in Ezé has any truth to it, the only place I see Palmer & Philips fitting in, is as player makeweights plus money for transfers, or to provide permanent transfer fees toward other purchases.

Pep's comments that Palmer wants game time & City only considering a sale, & Rodri's comments about being overplayed, casting a spotlight on Philips, makes it pretty evident where both players stand where the club's concerned... )(

The sooner all this is cleared up, the better for all concerned imo...

We need more than eyecatching flashes here & there from Palmer mate.

He had a season to impress & failed to do so, albeit many claim that's because he couldn't dislodge Mahrez or Silva in his favourite right wing position.

This season we're without Mahrez & missed Bernardo for 2 matches. Palmer started & scored in both the Super Cup & Community Shield. However, neither were priority matches in the bigger scheme of things, but when it came to the games that matter, Cole's not had a sniff even with our squad being so down on numbers.

Pep sees him in training every day & knows whether he has what it takes to succeed at City.

However, Pep's take on Palmer is he wants more minutes, & we'll only consider a permanent move.

To my knowledge, Pep's never once suggested the same where Foden or Lewis were concerned.

£30m for Palmer with a buyback/sell on clause, & £40m for Philips is for the best all round imo... )(

He hasn't, which is a shame. He's a very talented lad but he must be missing something for Pep not to play him regularly.

And it's a cold hard truth, but unless our youth products are pushing generational ability (i.e Foden), they aren't going to make it here.
I agree, and it's a shame most of our most promising players will have to move on. Maybe Rico will eventually, but for now the lad is progressing nicely...
