I would say there are only really 5 spots as one of your 6 is pretty much always taken by a defender stepping into midfield (eg Stones and recently Akanji). We normally play with 4 defenders, so that leaves only 6 outfield places, one of which is usually taken by Haaland. In reality we would have 9 players for 5 spots if we sign Nunes. 11 if you include Bobb and McAtee (I see Lewis more as a defender stepping into midfield) and 12 when KDB is back. It's not going to really give much opportunity at all for the younger players.Him staying makes perfect sense for depth imo considering we play with 2 wingers, 2 attacking midfielders, 2 controlling midfielders.
The team perfectly will have 3 options for 2 spots, with extra cover from versatile players.
3 wingers: Grealish, Doku, Palmer
3 attacking mids: Foden, Bernie, Alvarez
3 control mids: Rodri, Kova, Nunes
9 players for 6 spots.
With Bobb, McAtee and Lewis for cover to make it 12 in 6 spots.
This is perfect depth in that the 9 will play ALOT and the other 3 can handle sub minutes, injury cover etc.
I also think Bernardo will play more as a winger from the left or in CM for more control.
