Colin Bell RIP - Ian Cheeseman interview with Jon Bell (P142)

He was the complete opposite of Best, he didn’t like any attention and still doesn’t to this day. The King did his talking on the pitch not in pubs or some birds knickers. Don’t think he was ever underrated, even away from Maine Road, he just wasn’t in the news and courting controversy like others did. There have been umpteen players including Best who could be described as flawed geniuses, Colin Bell was a genius without any flaws..

If you are interested, go online and watch him
play, look at his stats, plenty of stuff out there mate ..
Cheers man, as I say i looked at YouTube videos but they can be a bit misleading. If I can find a full game of his I may well watch it some time.

I dont like modern players like pogba, Beckham and ronaldo who are media whores off the pitch so I think id really have liked Colin Bell. Its the same as David silva is a genius but rarely in the media so I like him more, iniesta too.

I agree mate, David Silva is the best player to set foot on a premier league pitch bar none... Another magic, City genius

He sounds like he was great. Was he underrated next to George best cos of the united hype?
Very different type of player to Best. I don't think he was that under-rated at the time, he was a regular in England squads but perhaps didn't win as many caps as he might in his early days because England seemed to use him in a similar attacking midfield role to Bobby Charlton. Once Charlton retired from internationals Bell became a regular starter and had become a key player in the England team when he was seriously injured.

Get well soon Colin.

I would say he was quite like Yaya but without any attitude, great pace, stamina like no other, better tackler and harder worker than Yaya. Best City player in my lifetime, but close with David, Vinnie, Yaya, Fern, Sergio and Kevin. We had one KING in 40 years, and then we got those SIX in 10 years, and others like Raheem, Zab, Dias, Laporte, Walker, Edin, Ederson, Carlos etc etc etc. What I find really fucking weird is how much more the modern day fans moan, one defeat and they are crying like wet fannies. City are fucking brilliant, so was Colin
