Colin Bell RIP - Ian Cheeseman interview with Jon Bell (P142)

The sole reason I became a City fan. Truly the greatest ever.
To meet you and shake your hand is on my bucket listHope you get well soon King.

I had an unusual experience at the Sussex v Gloucestershire T20 at Hove, the evening before City"s game at Brighton, on the opening day of 17-18

Not a word of a lie, one of the Umpire's (David Milns) spotted my City shirt in the Pavilion, and asked in a broad East Midlands accent if I had any spares for the away end.
He then confided that the only reason he'd been a City fan all his life, was his childhood obsession with Colin Bell
Much to the bemusement of the locals, he then walked out for the Second Innings, whilst singing BLUE MOON in my direction
I've since googled and Milns mentions being a City fan in a couple of ICC articles.

I hope he pulls through, my best wishes to him. I modelled my playing style on Colin Bell, wanted to be everything he was, he inspired me to play football. At the time our family could afford a TV, it was the mid-70s and by that time too late to watch him play after the injury. If only I was 10 years older I could have seen him in the flesh, my dad says he was one of the world's best footballers.

cheesy tweeting that he is improving and hopes to be home soon ;-)

I was in the vascular clinic at Wythenshawe a while back. It was its usual crowded area when the nurse came out and shouted " Colin Bell", I was surprised to to see indeed it was the man himself. I was annoyed that of all the people in the room apart from me there was not a flicker of recognition.
Knowing that Colin detested a fuss perhaps it was just as well, I resisted from revealing his visit respecting his privacy. I could not resist giving him a quick nod when he passed me.
Good luck Colin.

Thats good that you respected and resisted posting that Colin was in hospital, well done mate.
Everyone knows he's a very private man.
Like you ,if it was me,I too would have had to nod or let onto him one way or the other.

Fantastic, thanks for posting. That brought back some memories. The misty weather, the dark stands, Summerbee and Marsh taking the piss, commentary that confined itself to what was happening on the pitch and, of course, the King himself.

Good post that mate .... yeah, i noticed Summerbee and Marsh on there takin the mickey out of the rags defenders by the touchline , so funny to see , they were real characters those two .... and of course it was Colin Bell , who had signed for City back in 1966 , and who's goals really hurt United that day ... good times they were.

When you visit that area of Moss Side now it's hard to believe that Maine Road ever existed, the housing estate that replaced it looks so bland, and 'out of place' ... but it WAS there for 80 years , and videos like the one i posted help keep the memories alive.

Bity of old footage here from an eventful Manchester derby back in August, 1968 , all the big names from either side are there ..... We were the First Division Champions , and they had won the European Cup ... the match itself somehow finishes 0-0 , but features a disallowed Neil Young City goal , Buzzer gets into hot water wit the ref for a naughty tackle ... some pathetic finishing from George Best ..... and Colin Bell almost wins it for us, but hits the post!
