Colin Hendry

Burnley away in the FA cup, 1991, he scored, we won 1-0, really wound up the Dingles, great atmosphere, up to half way line standing at the side and the away end we have now full of blues, I was stood up, proper old school sway forward when we scored and ended up miles from where we had been before the goal
Remember that game well mate! freezing cold typical burnley day, him playing for blackburn meant non-stop abuse so ironic when he banged the winner in!! 7,000 of us blues going mental :)

I spoke to Colin after training at platt lane before the derby at old Trafford. “ do them fuckers Colin and sorry bout my language “ to which he replied “ I’ve heard worse about them” derby day arrives .. he scores an own goal. I always wondered if I contributed to that own goal

Like what for instance? Always willing to learn more. Every day a school day.

no matter how good a player you was at Manchester city back then if you wanted to win silverware a move was the only option. peter swales was crazy and never understood the role of being chairman and not the football manager
he wanted full control of everything even the tea lady had to bow

any chairman sanctioning the sale of colin hendry for £700.000 and buying Keith Curle for £2.25m must be mad
Scottish international for a uncapped player crazy. why did we all go and watch city back then

peter swales was a laughing stock of football. many clubs worst than manchester city and spent little had more success than us ? just stop and think that 1986 youth team could or should have gone on to win and play for england

Colin wasn’t a Scottish International until 1993 after he left City and had never represented Scotland at any level prior.Curle became an England international with City in 1992 and had already been capped at B level in 1991.

In hindsight it was ridiculous to get rid of Hendry and keep Redmond and eventually get Vonk to partner Curle. Curle was a decent defender though albeit overpriced and Hendry in hindsight was criminally underpriced.

Imagine what could have been if we had kept Curle and Hendry together.

I met Colin on a train while travelling to the Etihad a few years back. He was with a group and looked familiar but judging by his comments had played for City. He looked very different from the player I knew with Blackburn and Rangers twenty year earlier.

I eventually made the connection and identified that it was indeed Colin Hendry. He was travelling to the match as a hospitality match-day guest for City.

He came over as a decent individual.

Ridiculous decision to sell him, should have been up there as an icon similar to Dave Watson, Andy Morrison and Vincent (even Mick McCarthy for me), he went on to win the Premier League with Blackburn, you don't manage that with a dodgy centre half, so says it all, fantastic defender.
That just sums up Manchester City, Peter Reid - and Peter fucking Swales - at that time.
