Don't get me wrong if your not happy you should drop out so that someone else could take your place who wants it but can't you change subjects or anything.
I dropped out a year into mine, got a full time job n changed my career, never looked back but can't stand people who go to college and then when Thursday came, complaining of dropping out because they didn't receive there EMA seems it's the be all and end all in going to college/sixth form. Just my opinion.
To be honest with you, I'm livid about certain cuts in financial assistance for Further Education students, especially the ALG which helps adult learners on low incomes better themselves at college. too much attention is focused on the EMA (which a lot of school leavers seem to regard as simply getting paid for going to classes). I fully back a person's choice to leave a course if they feel it isn't for them, be that after a week a month or a year. But to just sit and fucking moan (or worse, to piss around) throughout classes is simply unacceptable.
Some of my classmates have been on the dole for a long time and have done volunteering or completed the Action 4 Employment scheme to get on this course and are busting a fucking gut to get the work in. I have a university degree and got on the course by virtue of my academic grades, volunteer experience and the fact that I pay hard cash every year. The changes to the Dole proposed by the coalition will mean that any able bodied person on our course in receipt of benefits will be obliged to attend community work (ie picking up dog shit), as a priority over any other commitments, including college courses.
So come next year, instead of working hard towards bettering themselves, a number of my classmates will be pulled out of lectures to pick up fucking rubbish.
Well I don't think students should be given money in the sense of EMA but all courses depending on your income should be fully government funded. It would never happen but I believe you should never be stopped in bettering yourself. No matter who you are. It would cost the government billions but some of the cuts they are doing are just laughable and then everything is more expensive because of it.
One thing I don't like is when they say the household income, what does it matter what your wife/girlfriend/lodger/parent earns when it's you who is attending the course. Apologies for my naivety but I feel it should always be on your own personal income.
