Coloccini.

My personal view is that we should not be buying any players aged over 27 unless they are on a free or world class.

Much better to buy 22/23 and develop them and have some re-sale or longivity (i.e. can be at City for the next 10 years)
This model has worked for Man U and we need to do the same.

Unfortunately Coloccini does not fall into these categories.

Outside of age, he is and has always been a class player If the belief is that Savic would pan out, then a 2 year stop gap CD makes sense.

But talent wise he is superior to anyone we have not named kompany.

well if you would have him over Joleon Lescott then more fool you

One stat I recall reading is that as a defender he had the best successful pass completion rate of any PL defender.....

That's important to the way we play

He's not brilliant though is he. Coloccini. Hardly fires up the excitement! With the amount of money we have and the fact we're champions, surely we can do better than that?

I personally don't see a need to change the Vinny/Lescott partnership, but if we're after cover at CB then surely a young, potentially world class player is the way forward? Hummels, perhaps. Or Martinez.

Signing Coloccini makes a lot of sense to me.

We don't need a player who wants to be an automatic starter, as the Kompany/Lescott partnership is one of the strongest in the League, and nor to we need a player who will impede the progress long-term of our promising young Centre Backs in Rekik/Boyata/Savic.

At 30, a player is by no means on the scrap heap when at Centre Back - arguably they are hitting their prime at this age.

What we need is a relatively cheap but dependable back up for when Vinnie gets his inevitable two four match bans next season, without having to throw a youngster into the fire with potentially disastrous consequences for his confidence and our League/Cup ambitions - see Savic.

Coloccini is the Captain of the team that finished 5th, was in the PFA team of the year last season, wouldn't cost the world, is a good age both in terms of current quality but also in terms of the long term progression of our promising young players in that position and should find it easy to settle being used to the League by now, and with our strong Argentine contingent already at the Club.

I can't see much wrong with this signing

Doesn't roll off the tongue in Beijing?

Lescott is gash and his days are numbered after the QPR howler

Vinnie, Coloccini, Savic & someone like Dawson would do me. Boyata needs to stay too

This makes a lot of sense. And i really like the acquisition of Argentinian players. Much prefer their work ethic compared to the brazilian prima donnas eg Hulk
