Commission on Race & Ethnic Disparities

"There is a new story about the Caribbean experience which speaks to the slave period not only being about profit and suffering but how culturally African people transformed themselves into a re-modelled African/Britain."

If there was a sentence that makes me more sympathetic to rolling Colson's statue into the harbour where slave ships plied their trade, that would be it. And I don't even understand what he means. "Apart from all the profit and the suffering, half a million people being enslaved by Bristol traders had its good side."

I said the report would be forgotten in a week. It will be hard pushed to make it beyond 48 hours. Times piece summing it up nicely. Some good points, shame about the packaging.

"The government had the perfect opportunity to address it in the Sewell report, but opted instead, not only to avoid facing up to the problem, but to undermine the efforts of those fighting to resolve it more sincerely"
