Community shield Post match thread

Also because when a keeper makes a mistake it results in a goal, A defender, Midfielder or attacker can get away with it.

Usual English media bombarding him from his first mistake at the swamp.

He's been exceptional the last two seasons ect Top keeper.

I agree, but the poster asked why he came in for criticism. That first season, he was bloody awful.
He's looking more like the player we thought we'd signed.

I agree with some of this, but I thought Raz was very direct in H1 and as a result he was playing very naturally, instinctive if you prefer. If you look at the stats over the two halves you’ll see that it’s more than likely pep decided to go out and defend the lead rather than push on for the win. Why he did that I can only guess maybe to invite them on to see if we could contain them or maybe he thought we were gassed so he was trying to conserve energy, I don’t know.
I'm lost too mate. To me, it looked like we were still going out to play as we normally do, but we ran out of puff & the Dippers finally woke up.

That's why I said in the second half we needed to become more compact, & control the game defensively until we got our second wind. We always seem to look very shaky when trying to see a game out against better opposition.

I played at a lowly level, but I always remember our manager making two chopping motions with his hands which meant get back into your starting line up shape (442) & don't stray out of it until told otherwise. Being compact when needed is our next level of development.

That's why I used the analogy of a boxer covering up until his head had cleared after being tagged.

Just watched it back. We should have capitalised so much more on our first half performance. Second half we looked a bit knackered. What a great win when not at our best. They were so desperate to beat us. Maybe it'll be their year again later in the season...then again...maybe not. Lol.

We've just won 5 domestic trophies out of a possible 5...remember someone once saying...not in my lifetime...Haha.

Should have been 3-0 up 20 mins into the 2nd half. We faded badly. Pep once more showed his one and only weakness in his subs. Foden should have been on for the last 15 mins.
More work needed on team fitness I think.

I think he was trying to get as much game time into the players that I think will start the first game.

Not a great fan of game like this or indeed counting it as a 4th trophy last season. To me this game is just about fitness for the start of the season and Pep obviously wanted a good number of players to play 90 mins and you could see the players tire in the 2nd half. I would have been gutted to have lost this match to the Dippers as they would be claiming it was the 1st of 7 trophies they are playing for this year. So for that reason....thank goodness we won !

And there was Tyler questioning the accuracy of goal line technology! I wish to god I'd found an Arabic stream, or a f**king Chinese one! His commentary is just an irritating dirge.

It's still more accurate then the assistants eye sight and guaranteed to be in the right place, every time.
Even if it's not totally accurate, the twat forgets it's the same for everyone.

7 trophies and they I bet they don't win one.

PEP We won on penalties. You can win, you can lose. The hunger is there. For this part of the season the game was tremendously demanding. We had a really good first half, but after we couldn’t control the switch of play, the long balls, the duels.

PEP I don't think there will be just two contenders to win the Premier League. There will be many this time. The difference today was one penalty. It’s good to face them to see how well prepared we have to be to try and win the titles.

PEP Everyone made an incredible contribution but @C1audioBravo won the game. He is an incredible second keeper. He saved the game many times today and of course, he had to save the penalty. After what happened (injury), he is not a young guy. I was really impressed.

Posting that last one must have hurt you to the core!

Manchester City become the first side to retain the Community Shield since Manchester United in 2011.

Virgil van Dijk was dribbled past for the first time in 65 competitive appearances, by Gabriel Jesus. [@OptaJose]

Pep Guardiola: "An incredible final. We’re exhausted. They [Liverpool] had chances to win and we had chances to win too - a good test for both teams. It’s nice to play to realise what we’re going to face this season."

"We won, last season we won one more point than them. Congratulations to the guys - the first title of the season is ours."

Kevin De Bruyne: "It’s always gonna be tough. We defended well at times, we could have scored, they could have scored. It was a really open game. The good thing is we always play the same system so we know what we have to do."

"Some guys came back this week and others a few weeks. It’s really important we get the fitness up. For most of the guys it was the first 90 minutes of the season."

Kyle Walker on THAT clearance: "I'm a defender. I stop goals."

Pep Guardiola on Rodri: "It was maybe the highest test he can face - the Champions of Europe. I thought he had an incredible game."
