It’s a strong NO from me.
Democracy is giving people the right to not vote if they choose not to. The choice of whether to vote or not is another form of free speech and must be protected at all costs.

You may be saying what is wrong with Eccles Blue (apart from the usual, she's daft) she is liking everyone's opinion.

The point is that it should never be allowed to get to that stage, 2 party politics stinks I would rather have a dysfunctional rabble with different opinions on different things than this bunch of lying grifters.

Strong No from me, as has been said above, a considered decision not to vote is a vote in itself. The only way I may consider compulsory voting acceptable would be with the addition of "none of the above"
I also disagree strongly, for the same reason, with the point made above that my decision not to vote precludes me from political debate or opinion. Indeed I would argue that compulsory voting without the "none of the above" option is undemocratic in itself.

Ambivalent about it tbh. If we were to make one fundamental voting reform, to me some form of PR is much more important.

I would rather people voted out of choice, as its ludicrous that a minority of those who voted can form a Government with a huge majority of seats. I am fairly sure that there has never been a Government elected by a majority of the electorate and only a handful elected with a majority of votes cast, the last one was in the 50s i think.
There is also the issue of sanctions against those who choose not to vote. Where do you set the sanction, a £10 fine, a month in prison, a loss of democratic mandate for life, hung drawn and quartered ?
What is needed is a complete overhaul of our democracy as FPTP is outdated and undemocratic, Parliament is archaic and whilst tradition should be respected where possible some of the rules are ridiculous.. On the voting issue, it should be made easier to vote, why not introduce voting by Mobile phone, surely somebody can create an app that makes it possible.
