Compulsory Voting: Yes or No?

if you don't vote don't moan about the consequences of the antics of the party that gets elected.

Did you actually read my post?

If I had voted tactically to avoid the party that I didn't want getting elected I would have played a part (however small in getting it elected).

In FPTP any other vote than the two parties in a marginal seat is a wasted vote. Which makes your first post little more than bollocks.

I've probably voted for the LDs tactically since (it means so little that I forget if I just wasted it voting Labour instead), but would have done so safe in the knowledge that they weren't likely to form another coalition because of their impotency.

Yes I did and I wasn't referring to that I was airing my thoughts on people I have known for 40 years who boast they "never vote because they are all the same " then moan incessantly about the Govt they did nothing to try and influence - It would be a ling process but I'd expect that bringing in compulsory voting would eventually bring aroind calls for an end to FPTP

thats bollox tbh, I reserve my right to moan about the antics of whichever party gets in as I didn't have the option for "none of the above" and therefore employed the only way available to express my feelings by not voting. Had I chosen to vote for either of the two main parties then I would have been compromising my principles as I do not trust nor agree with most of the policies of either. Had I voted for one of the lesser parties then I'd have been wasting my time(a) researching their policies on the off chance they might actually have something sensible to say and (b) trekking over to the polling station to place my pointless X

You could always spoil your ballot paper.

Draw a cock and balls or write insulting things about the various political parties.

That's providing you could be arsed.
If all the current non voters, could be arsed to spoil their ballot papers, maybe things would change.

It's all a bit chicken or egg I suppose.
