COMS Capacity

The pitch could be dug down a further 5 metres and the stands brought closer to the pitch. There's loads of room to do it as the pic above shows. Probably get another 10 rows of seats in all the way round. Prob is they'd all be Gene Kelly seats!

I doubt they could dig down any deeper, it'd be too near to the water table and the pitch would flood too easily.

I agree, haven't we already had problems with flooding this preseason? Up seems the only way really. I think we do need 48k every week to justify it though. With the way ST sales have been going that might not be too far away.

Essentially the height of the compression back stays would have to be increased behind the north and south stands to accomodate the required roof height. This has implications into how you would adequately temporarily prop the roof whilst doing this, in a nut shell it can be done but as you say it has to be very much worth the club's while because it'll be disruptive and costly. Its an issue worth cable stayed structures, they look the dogs but are a PITA to alter where as structures like OT are easier because you can put steels where the hell you like without disrupting the aesthetic (lets face it its a meccano shit hole).

Ok so not quite allowed for in the initial design then? I believe that it would necessitate a new roof something that would likely mean part of the season with no roof The roof structure at the north stand was bare for the games but if you look at photos the inner ring was present I suppose new towers could be built and then the higher structure supported from those My view is that the logistics would make it unlikely As regards the digging out then too close to the water table

From what I understand it was allowed for in the initial design in terms of allowing for additional load into the piled foundations and load capacity of the reinforced concrete spiral cores and other supporting structures, which the new third tier would be supported on (remember the roof is essentially a different structure). I personally couldn't see it even being considered unitll were selling out everygame for at least a 5/6 year period, but remember we have the monies and we don't know what the arabs have planned, nothing would surprise me!

Should we not at least own the stadium before we start to think about changing it, i for one would like us to purchase it in the very near future!!!

why on earth would you want to tear the roof off of your own building? it makes much more sense to tear the roof off someone else's building, just in case shit goes pear-shaped.

"what's all this?"
"no clue sir. we just got here."
"but you have bulldozers, and cranes, and all of these..."
"those aren't ours."

Digging down and trying to create a lower tier is a non starter. Not only is there not enough room it would have massive structural implications for the whole of the stadium plus as anybody in major construction (as I am) will tell you anything you do in the ground can be a bit of a lottery.
Creating a third tier on the North and South stands and integrating it into the Bell and East stand would be more feasible but ultimately to costly I would think. A complete new roof not to mention a sub-structure capable of holding it would be hugely expensive and dont forget that to build up on the North and South stands would also involve building outwards to support and accomodate the structure however this could possibly be cantilevered. Either way the whole ground would lose it's symmetry and look a right pigs ear ala the swamp as well as only adding circa 12 thousand seats at best although realistically this may be all we need at the mo.
Cheapest overall option would be to move and build our ground as the council are hardly likely to let us have it for nothing in the first place.

don't forget coms was at the epicentre of the earthquakes we had a few years back so digging down couldn't\wouldn't be a great idea surly?
