Confused about 2 job offers, help

On a serious note though, I’d go for the San Diego one. Worth taking a small dip in pay if you can afford it for long term growth and gains.

Sounds like you’re a bit bored / stifled in the current job and the other new opening sounds very similar.

I’ve never done shift work though so I might be talking bollocks.

Shift work, nights in particular will fuck you up over time. The erratic sleep, eating times etc physically, missing out on quality home and social time will do for you mentally.

I am sure there will be many studies (employer commisioned most likely) to argue my next point, but I saw so many instances of deaths shortly after retirement for people who had been on shifts for decades. Not coincidental.

Admittedly, I was in an industry (national newspaper production) that was at the extreme of shift work in it was mostly nights and weekends, but I would say if you can avoid them, do so. Especially long term.

Given it’s nearly 2 years old , what did you decide Roy ?
Well a lot has happened since then. I didn’t accept either of those offers as my parents were down with COVID and my dad’s condition was very serious. So I stayed at my old company but then got a different job now which is fully remote. My wife and I are moving to San Diego this summer but holy fuck it’s expensive.
