I fully agree ........ you can't trust Manchester city council , never have been able to ....... they say nine out of ten people won't pay this charge , but would they really be so keen to push it through if that was the case ?

They're a bunch of liars ... and the first congestion fees and 'set' charging periods will be just the start!

Not as if their councillors will be hoppin' on a packed bus or packed tram , is it?

They're railroading two or three other objecting local councils into it by way of threats.

Anybody who thinks this is a good thing , or that they will benefit long term is deluded to the extreme.

Not sure if anyone knows this

If you dont vote, then your vote is being classed as a YES. This is according to my sister who works at the council.
Is this actually true?!!! If so it's an absolute farce, an abstention should be treated as just that. If you can't be arsed to vote, or if you don't know which way to vote then it's a completely acceptable position to take to simple not fill in your voting slip. It DOESN'T mean you're in favour of the changes.

I have no Idea if its 100% true, I'm just going off what my sister said she was told

I can see a flaw in that argument.

It would be crazy and utterly illegal. No chance of this being true.

I just got a booklet through saying why i should vote yes...

Part of it said why the roads will be better and clearer;

"Traffic signals and signs will be co-ordinated across GM to improve traffic flow and journey times"

"Improved information for all drivers on local traffic conditions"

Now, surely they should be doing this already? And if even they do not have to - it isn't going to cost £3billion to do this is it?

Who gets to vote and how do you vote?

I live in Stockport, will i be able to?

I believe everyone in the affected council areas will get a vote. There are 10 councils involved (Manchester, Salford, Stockport, Bury, Wigan, Oldham, Rochdale, Trafford, Bolton and Tameside), each has it's own vote, I think they need 7 councils to vote yes for it to go ahead. I live in Stockport and I'm expecting to get a vote. My girlfriend lives in Salford and she definitely gets a vote.

Can the thread upstairs be brought down here? I have no idea why it has been allowed to remain up there.
