That doesn't really qualify as controversial though, does it? He shone like a beacon in his era due to the fact we had a shit team. There's quite a bit of revisionist thinking on here about Gio, to be honest. He often went missing in away games. And his overall career (not just with us) was underwhelming, for a guy with his undoubted skill. The post 2010 player he seems to be compared to most is David Silva. Well; I'm sorry, but he isn't fit to lace Silva's boots.
